I'm back finally!!! Need help with a feiago 8s/mgm 8012. - 03.30.2006, 12:53 AM

Ok, I have been messing with this system for a while. I traded it off and then traded back. I feel like a kid for doing trades like that, but anyway. Now I have it programed up, using Batfish's instructions.(Thanks You batfish) Well it works good but it seems to be slow on start up and then really fast on top end. Almost like its running on a dead battery and BOOM it's off like a rocket. I have a 5.5 in a rusty and it has pep on take off and on top end.

This is the programing I used:(Thanks again Batfish for "dumbing it down" for me)
Plugged it in.
Turned my radio on.
Pressed full throttle.
Turned ESC on.
Held full throttle until the ESC beeped 3 times.
Pushed full reverse until the ESC beeped once.
Moved to neutral until the ESC beeped 2 times.
Pushed full reverse once (set paramater 1 to "CAR Mode"), moved to neutral.
Full throttle, moved to neutral.
Turned ESC off.

At least it is not shutting off everytime like before.

Oh and it's in a Traxxas Stampede with gearing 17/87.

Thanks in advance guys.

Mine seems to have a slow start like that to. I have not got a chance to run it alot though. I will have to let you know something if i figure it out.

Peace!

All you did was set it to car mode. If you want it to take off faster, you will need to adjust the acceleration. Instead of turning the controller off, do this:
-full throttle (unless you want to adjust the strength of the brakes)
-hit reverse 1-8 times (and let it do its succession of 1 beep, then dual beeps after each time you hit reverse), with 1 giving the fastest acceleration, 8 giving the slowest, with 4 giving you the same acceleration you have now. If you want the fastest acceleration, only hit reverse once.
-Hit full throttle to accept this setting.
You can turn it off now.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. Also, my reverse is slow. You mention unless I want to adjust the strength of the brakes. How do I do that?

Those instructions are the most confusing thing I have ever looked at. I have read them before and never figured it out.

Batfish "dumbed it down" for me and that is how I figured it out. Thanks though.

I agree, the instructions are confusing at first, but now that it has been "dumbed down", they should actyually make sense to you. The MGM controllers have a pretty soft takeoff with the factory acceleration profile. I always dropped this profile back a couple notches for better low end response.

The instructions literally took me an hour and a half to understand! But once I got the hang of it, it was cake. If you come to understand what to do for each step, then you will be able to do it every time. Just don't worry about reading their "English", just look at the chart of the different parameters.

Basically, reverse throttle means "enter." It moves you to the next parameter and you should hear a 2 or 3 beeps.

The number of times you apply forward throttle corrisponds to the mode number at the top of the chart and you should hear 1-2 beeps each time. Example: If you are in parameter "C," and you want the 0.26 second acceleration setting, you apply forward throttle twice, making sure the controller does its 1-2 beeps each time. Once you do that you press enter by applying reverse throttle until the controller does its 2-3 beeps (It lets you know that the setting is saved). Now you're in parameter "D," and you repeat the process until you are through with all of the parameters. If you do not wish to change a parameter, you may press enter to skip to the next one. However, you cannot skip parameter A. You must hit forward throttle once until it beeps, to get into car mode, and then you press enter until it beeps. Now you're in parameter B. I hope I explained it clearly enough. Let me know if I didn't.

Speedybl, I program my controller differently than that. I hit reverse (trigger forward) to change the settings, and full throttle (toward me with the trigger) to save the setting and proceed to the next parameter.

It depends if your throttle is reversed on your radio.

I got the acceleration fixed. Can you adjust top end speed?

The only non-gearing way to do that is to adjust the timing. But, with 2pole motors you don't want to go over 10 degrees of timing, and 5 degrees is a better option. The best way to get more speed is to run more cells.

Okay, the accelleration is awesome. Almost to much... actually it is to much. So I will adjust it later. What is the factory timing set to?
