Need Help - Trying to find a cheap waterproof 12v power supply - 06.11.2010, 09:08 AM

I'm looking for a reasonably priced waterproof/resistant 12v power supply and since many of you are techies on here I thought you might be able to help me find a source for one.

What I'm trying to do is setup a stereo system for my outdoor spa. I have found a very resonably priced marine stereo system with a wired waterproof remote and everything that I can mount up on the spa itself and have the main unit in a waterproof marine case underneath. However I haven't been able to find a reasonably priced 12v power supply to power it. I have access to both 120v and 240v under the hot tub, but perfer to use 120v as I have a gfi outlet right where the power supply would go. Most stereos seem to put out about 4x50watts, but I'm not sure what there actual input power rating is.

I was able to find this on ebay, but would prefer something a bit cheaper.

Spa power supply - ebay

Let me know if you have any suggestions.

Wow, 5A is not a whole lot of current. It might be adequate, but some decks can draw up to 10A+ when turned up.

How far is the tub from the house? If it's close, just put the PS inside the house and run 12v power from that to the radio.

I was also concerned about current output of the ebay one I found, I have a feeling it won't be enough, even though im not gonna be running any crazy setup with it or anything.

The hot tub is not that far from my house or better yet my garage, but I would have to bury wires under ground to get to the tub deck from either and that can be a pain and would rather not if I dont have to.

I have a 30 amp pyramid power supply that I use for charging my rc stuff and was thinking that it would be perfect to run the hot tub system and it was cheap, like $60 or something like that. However I'd be concerned about how to protect it from moisture.
