HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! tranny problem - 12.04.2010, 01:16 PM

i was driving my bl emaxx and it was kinda making a clicking sound but i didnt think anything of it (probably just gear meshing was what i was thinking)

i was driving it then i stopped to pick something up and then when i tried to go again it didnt want to move...
i took the motor and everything off and tried to free roll it across the desk and the wheels lock up after a little rotation. (this is rolling it forwards and backwards)

please help!!!!!

Uh Oh!

OK, next step I would do is:

Remove the lower skid plate. <----part that protect the tranny on the bottom

Then I would disconnect the front and rear driveshafts from the tranny

This will help you figure out what's locking up.

If the tranny input shaft turns freely, then it's not the tranny.

It could be one of the diffs.

I hope this helps you figure out what the problem is.

First, I would check for a rock stuck in one of the wheels or A-arms. I've had this happen before too.

Good Luck!

Time to take it apart!

Sounds like a tranny gear broke a tooth....

New design emaxx? $10 its one of the diffs- probably stipped a load of teeth off those feeble stock ringgears or the spiders are all mangled...

Parts like that will be most easily found at your local hobby shop. You should take the diff out and find out which replacement part you need. I always email my lhs to make sure they have the part in stock because it is a long drive for me.

Cheapest way out is to just get a ring and pinion as that is most likely all that is damaged. To upgrade the gear to something better you will spend about $200. The only way to do it right really is to get the FLM hybrid bulks ($75/each for front and rear) and they use 1/8 scale diffs that you can pick up for about $25 each. I have bought complete stock diffs on ebay for about $20 though. You can upgrade the diff cup but they really aren't the weak link IMO. It really is just a weak gear with big tollerances in the manufacturing process. Onlt time I ever had a problem with any of mine was when running 6s or running new pin type tires on ashphalt, when new they grip like crazy, they just wear out fast.

I seen those bulks Neil. Good looking setup there.

I have some bulk cases, just need some good internals. Thing is though, I'm saving those for the G4 Chassis that I haven't found yet. LOL
