Help with my Mamba Max - 12.28.2010, 12:46 AM

Well I sold most of my stuff but kept a Mamba Max to use in my CRT .5. I'm using a Neu 1509 2D with it. When I select any power above 40% I get a weird high RPM stutter/cogging. Happens with my 10xl as well.

Also there is very little modulation in the first couple of steps for the throttle. The first step is very slow, then it takes a considerable amount of travel (on the Tx) before it gets to the next step. After that it seems fine.

Any ideas on whats causing these issues?

Thanks

First issue, I wonder how old the firmware is? Early FW versions had trouble with slotted motors. But that was a while ago, so not sure on this.

For the second issue, reduce the throttle deadband from within Castle Link. Can't remember the exact name for this, but it's pretty easy to tell. The only downside to this is if the pot in your transmitter is not the best (or "drifts"), the ESC may have a hard time finding neutral to arm.

I selected the newest one, 1.30 beta I think. Maybe I'll go back and try some other ones.

And for the second issue I was playing around with the deadband settings and have it mostly eliminated, but there is still a very noticeable jump. Makes me miss my MGMs.

Thanks

EDIT: I tried 1.30, 1.29, and 1.24 and the problem persisted. I am using 9 GP3300 batteries, but it also happened when I hooked up my 5S LiPo.

Well I still haven't found a solution to the stuttering problem I'm having at high RPMs.

Also I can't seem to get the LiPo cutoff to work. I'm using a 4s LiPo and whenever I set it to cut off, the controller does not work.

maybe the newest firmware is making it hard for you to use a 4s lipo cutoff because the Mamba Max is only rated to 3s

RC-Monster RC8T 1515 2.5D/MMM/5s RC-M 4500mah
SC10 MMPro 13.5T 2s NeuEnery 5000mah
RC18T Mamba 25/5400kv 2s lipo + 6s NiMh

It has 12v as one of the options, and I tried setting it to 6v and it still didn't work. It worked fine if I turned off the cut off though.

I just bought a MMM though so I will be using that until it needs to go in my revo. I feel like there are just too many issues with my MM (maybe its permanently broken) and the BEC doesn't work. Thanks for the help though

If you run the Mamba Max on 4s you need to use an external BEC. The original Mambas have linear BECs, be careful running it on higher voltages than 2s. I've burnt mine running it for extended periods on 3s, even.

I was, but when I tried to use the BEC I was only running on 6 NiMH

So your running a Neu motor with a 6 cell nimh battery ?

Wire in an external bec and run decent batteries, your issue will go away

Cheers

That was before I reconfigured my LiPo. The issue still occurs with my 4s 8000mah LiPo which is overkill and does fine with that motor. It also happens, with other battery/motor combinations
