Requesting shock spring measurements from 1/18 vehicles. -
01.06.2011, 05:41 PM
I have a set of the 3Racing alloy shocks for my Xray M18T, and the springs are too stiff for my liking. I have plenty of softer springs for the stock Xray shocks, but the diameter is too small to fit the wider 3Racing shocks.
I know most people here have the bigger scale vehicles, but if you do have a RC18 or Vendetta ST or Mini T or any other mini could you take some measurements? Looking for:
1. Inside diameter
2. Overall length
3. Is it the front or rear shock spring
To do things the other way, the springs for the 3Racing shocks are 10.5mm I.D., 36mm front, 46mm rear.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. With your help hopefully can find a spring that will fit.

Well,I'll try getting the measurement of my sc18 shocks when I have a chance. I do know the front and rear shocks are the same length and they are the same as rc18b's.don't know if that's a problem for you or not.--Josh

Thank you. I'm not worried so much about the length, if they are a reasonably close the difference can be accounted for with the adjustment collars, or using some spacers. Diameter is the most important measurement.

Ok,springs are 31.5mm long and 10.5mm ID and the blue springs I'm using are medium with a 1.9lb rate. Silver is harder but I can't remember which is softer.--Josh

Excellent, the diameter is perfect.
The blue spring with 1.9lb rate is supposed to be a longer spring for the RC18T/B rear, the shorter blue spring for SC18 ( and RC18T/B front) is supposed to be 2.55lb rate. So are you using the RC18T/B rear longer springs on your SC18? I'm just trying to figure out if the 31.5mm length is for the front or rear size RC18 springs.
Thanks for the help so far bigsteel!

I'm running longer springs and slightly longer shocks on my sc18 cause it was lacking in ground clearance.but yes,it is a rear 18t spring.--Josh

OK well it looks like the RC18 rear springs can work on the 3Racing front shocks. Still need to find some longer ones for the rear though, so if anyone has a Mini T or Vendetta or other 1/18 some spring measurements would be a big help!

Ahh I hadn't thought of that, good idea. The cool thing about that is I could do a dual-rate setup. Do you happen to still have the shorter stock springs from your SC18 you could measure? (they are the same as 18T/B/R fronts)

You will have to make a collar for them to fit into like with the old Proline Power Strokes if you are to double them up. I kinda wish I had a mini.

That's what I planned on, probably just use a small plastic washer.

Awesome, almost perfect length for stacking two together. Looking forward to trying a dual-rate setup.
Thanks again for taking the measurements bigsteel.

Pvc pipe would be perfect you could just cut spaces for the springs to rest.
