I've been running my savage for a while now on a 5000 mah 6s hyperion lipo, RX8, with mechanical brakes.

My question is. I'm getting tired of the mechanical brakes and all the hardware that is involved with em. If I delete it all and just use the electric brakes will I have any issues burning my esc out? I raced electrics for yrs, but never ran 6s.

I don't know anything about the RX8 but I've never had an issue with my MMM using the esc and motor for braking

There is a higher risk especially during hard acceleration/braking. I ran 5S with ESC brakes and so far so good. by the way, I had my share of burnt ESCs (MMM and RX8) when I was running 6S.

I added caps to both my RX8 to handle the hard brakes from 58mph with my GTP's. Still running the first Generation RX8's.

Which caps? How are they wired? I would add them if it gives an added insurance. Is it only under extreme braking that issues arise? Thanx alot

These caps are a great choice.

Just solder the (+) and (-) of the caps to their respective RX8 battery posts. The caps absorb the high voltage spikes that occur when braking from high speed, or with a heavy truck, or both.

Yup, use two or 3 of them.

You could ask RC Monster Mike to parallel the caps for you so that there's only one set of leads to connect. If you ask nicely he might even heatshrink them for ya...

Ok. I noted the caps. When you say solder them onto + and - are you saying to the motor leads, battery leads, or both. A diagram would make me happy. Lol thanx for the advice so far everyone

The main battery leads. Just match the polarity. The capacitor will have a dotted line ( - - - ) on it's negative lead. If you get the leads soldered on, they will be Red/Black just like the battery wires. The solder posts on the RX8 should make things easier, rather than having to splice into the wires.

Hey guys, I was at a electronics shop, today and was able to buy 3 35v 1000 uf caps, is this still ok? I bought them to use but figured I would just get a second or third opinion. Thanx

They need to be low-ESR type to handle the ripple currents without overheating. Low-ESR caps have a 105*C temperature rating. Normal caps like those found at RadioShack only have an 85*C rating and are not suitable for this usage.

I run 6s in multiple RC's and haven't had a prob yet but my brake settings are pretty light (30%)
