So I bought some RC4WD shocks for my 5b and simply put,the seals suck. They leak pretty badly. So my questions are:
will simply squishing the seals tighter make a better seal?
Should I try larger o rings? Different compound maybe?
What about something like RTV?
Any other things you guys can think of to remedy this ####### problem?
I've heard good things about associated's green slime. I just ordered a tube with a rebuild kit for my SC10, shocks have leaked since new and my friend just got one and has the same problem. For under $3 I figured it's worth a shot
I bought like 3 tubes of the green slime thinking I'd use a lot, but you really don't need so much of it, 2 tubes would probably last you a long long time..
I am sure your rawbuns could use some. Make Jeff a happy man!
Best way I found to apply the slime to the o rings is to place the o ring on your thumb, put some slime in the center of the o ring and then put your index finger on top of the o ring. Squeeze together and roll your fingers a bit. The shock shaft will rub most of the slime off when you push it thru, I also suggest smearing some of the slime on the shock shaft. Dry o rings seem to be the main cause of shock leaks. And silicone oil is a poor lubricant. The slime is a must have.
And rawcheeks is right, 2 tubes will last a long time. Buy 2 just in case you lose one, I did.
Ok,so the slime worked great! No leaks coming out of the bottom of the shock anymore.
And I used this stuff one one shock to see if it helps some more,it's a compund that causes orings to swell be 10% and hopefully it'll help create a better seal. If the shock I put it on doesn't leak first I know it worked!
