Needed to vent,my dog almost died... - 04.15.2011, 07:49 PM

So I almost watched one of my rottwieler puppies die...
I heard this huge fight from upstairs and came running with my shotgun (I thought it was a raccoon problem, had a bad one around here that killed a cat a few days ago) my mom was crying and holding both dogs crying "she's choking to death",apparently xena got her bottom jaw wrapped in sophies collar ,fell, and twisted it into a noose causing sophie to suffocate. I better thank god I had my pocket knife with me cause the choking ones gums were grey, her eyes bloodshot And she was no longer exhaling by the time I got through the god damned collar. Both are alright now but there still a little freaked out and won't make eye contact with each other. I needed to vent here guys,my nerves are still really on end right now,and I got a crap ton of holes in my hand where they bit me in there frenzy that I need to Patch up

always carry a pocket knife. ALWAYS. Thank god you did and you reacted how you had. Stop thinking about what could have happened and focus on what did- your actions and intervention saved a life.

Kudos for manning up and taking care of business. Pics of the now safe dogs would be cool, let us know who you're talking about

And bloody hand porn is always welcome

Thanks Harold, you're probably right, theyre ok,I'm ok,and my baby girl is alive. They still won't interact with each other though,I guess a near death experience will do that to dogs too,not just humans.
And I totally agree with you, everyone should have a pocket knife, you'll never know when you'll need it! I'll get some pics up in a bit and some more tomorrow, unfortunately Jo hand Porn for you! The bleeding stopped anyway.

The measure of a person is often how they react in a crisis or under pressure - you have passed this test in life with flying colours - well done. Your dogs are cute too.
Think on the positive side as Harold said - glass half full is always better. You are all now safe thanks to some quick thinking.

Maybe playing with them together will sort things out - you could take their collars off when doing this to help them deal with it too and you putting the collars back on after reassures them all is ok.

You guys are right, glass half full is totally correct, hopefully tomorrow they get back to being themselves.
And I don't want to sound like I'm gloating or anything here, cause im not,I'm glad today was my A game and I managed to think as quickly as I did,if I was just a few seconds slower I'm sure she would have died.

Those are beautiful animals. I love Rotts!

Like Brow said, you can show them that they're both okay. You're the leader, they will follow your lead.

Good luck man. I'm sure the adrenaline flowed and that takes a toll on a person. I bet you sleep well tonight despite the emotion.

Thanks for sharing pics

It's good that you know what to do in a crisis! Glad you saved your pup, I love dogs. Hope you get the coon problem taken care of too, I wouldn't want to see the coon get ahold of your pup now.

Man, thank you lucky stars it all ended like it did. I think I would be shattered beyond words if something was to happen to my puppy. Imagine what could have happened if you were at work at the time or just not there.

I am sure that in time it would all be fogoten and they will both play with each other soon again. Just one word of caution. I am not an expert by any means but I think that the collars in you pictures looked very loose on the girls. A loose collar has more chance for them to get stuck on somewhere and also to get tangled to each other like they did. My vet told me is all the slack they need is two fingers (index and middle finger) to fit under the collar snugly. No more than that. Don't mean to preach but just sharing advice I was given by a profesional.

Anyway since we are sharing pics of our puppies here is my little guy. His name is Üter and he is a White German Shepherd.

And here we have the squashy face look.

While I consider him my best friend sadly he doesn't seem to think of me as his best friend. I am a distant second his feline best friend. They play for hours on end, sleep next to each other, eat from each others bowls and it goes on....... I get left over love when the kitten wants to sleep and he isn't tired. Ah well...........

I am 1600miles away from him now. Dad is having cancer surgery and I want to be by his bed side as he recovers but it is killing me not being able to pat the little guy or have him chew on my toes even. My friends are looking after him and I think they are pretty sick of my constant phone calls and requests for a photo of him. LOL.

Also I think he is more into RC cars than me. He chases them till he gets sick and throws up. It is usually me that gets bored and wants to go home first which makes him sook all the way home.
