Rare parts? - 07.06.2011, 11:38 AM

Hi all.

I've recently been going through my RC stuff having a bit of a clearout, and I came across my old E-Maxx/E-Revo, which are currently dismantled in boxes and haven't been touched in a long time. That reminded me of this forum which I used to visit often a few years ago, so I had a look around the forum and was surprised to see that Gorillamaxx seem to have stopped producing the Maxx/Revo parts that I knew them for.

I've got an unused G2R chassis, which must be quite uncommon now, and a few other parts that may be rare these days. So, I thought I'd ask you guys if these items are still sought after, in which case I may sell them, or whether it was worth hanging on to them.

Gorillamaxx G2R chassis (with CF battery braces):

I once owned an original Revo, which was my 1st and last nitro RC, and planned to convert it into an E-Revo (this was before Traxxas went and did it themselves). I sold off the engine & all surplus nitro-related parts, bought a G2R, assembled it, but never got around to using it, because my only brushless setup was in my E-Maxx...

I've since sold the brushless motor & ESC, but I still have the rest of the truck. It's got UE widetrac suspension/spyder diffs/shocks/knuckles, Great Assembly bulkheads & titanium skids, Lundsford titanium turnbuckles, MIP CVD's, and a few other goodies, such as...

Ultramaxxed gears:

These weren't exactly common when I bought them, I even still have the receipt, showing that they cost me $160 in February 2004! Though the photo only shows 1 idler gear, I do have the other one, and it is currently inside...

Gorillamaxx single-speed transmission & Strobe slipper:

The transmission has been used (but not much), and I melted a stock slipper/spur setup, so bought a Strobe, which has still never been used to this day. I never managed to get one of the Strobe 'Sprong' thingys though, or the Gorillamaxx motor mount which I had once planned to.

Bomb-Proof Products 'Torpedo' chassis:

These also weren't common at the time, and I believe that the lower braces on this particular run were different to the normal BPP ones. It's had a fair bit of use, and has some battle scars, but no cracks or damage.

So, is any of this rare enough to be worth equal/more than what I paid for it a few years ago? I know that as time goes on, some RC items can become rare & sought after, yet others are quickly forgotten and are yesterdays' news.

I race 1/10 TC & buggies now though, and don't have any electrics that are suitable for the trucks, or the spare funds to spend on what would be just an RC for bashing. I may just hang on to all of it though, as I might get the urge/money to resurrect either/both of them to full working order at some point...

You sir are sitting on a small gold mine.

Ultramaxxed gear sets were selling for ~$400 at one point, though closer to $200 is about right these days since the new emaxx came along with it's much stronger tranny and gears.

There are always guys looking for GorillaMaxx chassis and the erevo version is highly sought after, easily worth $200 or more on it's own.

Not sure about the Torpedo chassis, very rare but you see so few of them, hard to put a price on it- if you advertised it on the large forums like URC, RCTech and RC Universe I'm sure there would be plenty of interest, though ebay may be best to reach a wider audience.

The Gorillamaxx transmission would sell for $80+ no trouble at all, though it might be worth sell it with the remaining Ultramaxxed gears as a bundle ( with a new input shaft and the rear of the tranny case, cheap to find on ebay )- you can make your own sprong quite easily though:

The UE truck as a whole would sell well for certain, UE stuff is always popular with guys looking for parts or whole assemblies- the new emaxx still has crummy diffs so there are loads of guys looking for 1/8 scale driveline items.

I think keeping the emaxx as a basher would be cool, sell off the G2r chassis which would fund the electronics for the emaxx if needed ( do you need a new motor and esc & batts, or just...? )

The torpedo chassis you have is reasonably rare, I bought the only 2 others I have ever seen for sale in the last 5 years. And the braces are not the std ones that bpp sold. Very nice chassis.

As for the other stuff i can imagine Neil is about right on prices. I can imagine alot of Maxx lovers are drooling right now!
