Padilla's quest for 100mph mark - 08.17.2010, 08:02 PM

Hi everyone i am new to the forum well i've always browsed but never posted everything i've learned about brushless setups i learned here on RCM so this buggy was built with the help of all of you so i wanna say thanks and wish me luck!

the buggy is an ofna 9.5 i made the motor mount myself not the best looking but does the job

i started out with a xerun 80a esc and 2230kv motor it was fun but not fast enough for what i wanted

video of it on xerun 80a combo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQ3ZQo9rmnQ

so i stepped my game up and went all out

here it is almost ready to make the 100mph pass just need to change my spur gear

i wanna thank Over_revo, miamizfinest, dwightschrute, and dcastanada for inspiring me to build this any suggestions would be much appreciated as well thank you i also have a similar thread on another forum because until today mods had not activated my account but this is the only forum where brushless setups are truly appreciated thanks for looking guys let me know what you think

From what I can tell your setup looks pretty good. Going over the 100 mph mark is not an easy achievement for sure. Some times it takes several passes and some tweeking to get the vehicle just right for the task. Your vehicle looks like a good setup for reaching your goal though. Running an open wheel vehicle that fast is tough. Your vehicle looks a bit lite and might want to float and lift off the ground on you. If you get close to 100 it should show you allot about the arodynamics of your setup. A front wing or some kind or defuser may be needed to keep it on the ground. You may also need to add a little bit of weight, but that is what testing is all about. Cool project. We all have our dreams. Good luck with your quest and keep us posted. Your right that RCM is the place for electric 1/8 scale. Welcome and have fun. Be careful there are some monsters lerking in here, but most are quite good in this hobby and very quick witted for sure.

everything looks really good. i'll just add: make sure your center diff is tight enough.( i ran mine with a diff locker) that's the biggest thing people tend to forget. also, do some low speed tests to make sure your camber and alignment is where you want it.

other than that, you should have no problem breaking the triple digits.

good luck!

That's my biggest dilema right. Now. I'm running the stock center diff with 51t spur. I know. Mike (Over_Revo). Has told me I need to run a center spool and a smaller spur gear from a revo. Only thing is. I drag races a lot and the center diff helps my launch. I've tried 100k center diff fluid. And from a dead stop its allover the place now. I guess u can't have it all

I have also read allot about the steering issues at those speeds. It is good to damper the steering linkage so it is not too overly reactive. At those speeds any sudden tweeks can send you into a cloud of dust pretty fast. A good smooth long surface for your runs is a must. Even the smallest of pebbles has the ability to destroy your toy in the triple digit speeds.
