esc/motor getting hot

i live in florida and it gets around 95 in the afternoon here. that happens to be when i hit the track. i run a 1950/8 with a 12020 and 6s lipo. my gearing is 15/51. if i go to 13/51, will that lower temps and give me better acceleration out of turns?

How hot is it getting? Whats getting hot? Motor? ESC? Batteries?

as stated in thread title, motor/esc getting hot. both to around 160-165f. batteries get warm only.

Thats getting kinda hot. Not really sure but to experiment. Thats kind odd that the batteries dont heat up but the motor and esc do. Try and get a 16 and 14 if you can. The heat may have something to do with it though. Do they get enough air? A hole in the windshield would help alot.

Those temps aren't so bad considering the air temp.I'd drop a couple of teeth and run as much air cooling as possible to help it out in the hot weather.

edit;squee,that's a point.it is actually hard to get a 1950 up to that temp so maybe try a 16t aswell.15/51 with revo diffs isn't that low though.

i want to put the monster heatsink on the motor and a fan on the esc. this g2r already weighs a ton though.

edit: also, i'm having a lot of trouble finding the perfect track setup. the g2r chassis sits lower than stock, but the truck weighs more. seems like i have to use to stiff of a setup to keep from severely bottoming out when using the lowest ride height. my setup right now is 40w oil all the way around with green/fr and black/rr, using tallest ride height hole. still pretty soft on landings. should i try 50w oil and leave the springs alone or stiffen the front springs and leave the oil alone?

Alot of people resort to the 120mm springs and about 50wt oil.

thanks squee. i tried 120mm's(purple and pink) and 70wt oil, way to stiff for track. i'll try purple/pink with 50wt oil. any ideas about spring combos?

I use to use blue and silver I think.

I do that for my bashers so there is a stiffer suspension for jumping and such. Even on my lightweight Revo, I had to use the second to stiffest of the 120mm springs (pink or purple, can't remember) in the rear since a lot of weight is sitting back there from motor and most of the batteries.

You have to be careful with ride-height though, especially with a heavy truck. If the springs bottom out before the truck chassis does, you can bend/break the shock end or shaft. With the Nitro Revo's weight mostly on the motor side in the back, landing from a jump wrong can set all the weight on one or one pair of shocks. I like to set ride height so the truck bottoms before the shocks do, but use stiff springs so it doesn't bottom too easily - I guess using the bottom of the truck as a safety. The skids are cheaper and easier to replace than shocks...

I use 120mm blue/rear silver/front with 40 weight oil. I might need to step up on oil, maybe 50 or 60. The shocks get worked in so thicker oil is a must.
