Is short course racing slowing? - 12.13.2011, 02:31 PM

I want to get back into rc and try to do a bit of racing, specifically short course. Is it still going crazy like it did 1 1/2 years ago? I would like to ride the tail end of the wave if it's going the way of the monster truck races.
I just want to race at the local track. What trucks would I be going up against if I converted a HPI 4x4 nitro MT2 too roar legal dimensions?

SC racing is alive and still growing in central New York. New track opened this month and they are already getting over 50 racers on race night, just for SC on an indoor clay track. The LHS I have been going to since day 1 is primarily a carpet oval with a makeshift SC carper track and they get between 10 and 20 for SC

Thanks E-Revonut that's a nice turn out......And really guys? i mean seriously? 222 views and no one except E-Revonut can chime in and answer a generic question, ive been out of the game for going in 3 years. i don't know whats up these days.

Sooo, IF i did some tweaking to my Mt2 to make it fit under a short course body:
1. What is my competition in the 4x4 sc class
2. Should i keep it nitro(cheep) or convert it(not cheep)
3. any nitro sc trucks?
4. Generally speaking!.....do they let the nitro's play with the electrics these days?

Like i said, I have no clue on any of this...i'm relying on input from you guys.

The only nitro sc truck I have heard of is the SC8 and I've never seen one raced. The main competition in 4x4 sc is the sc10 4x4, Losi sce10 or whatever it's called, the Durango 4x4, and maybe the OFNA/Jammin trucks. You'll likely see mostly the associated and Losi trucks. You'd def have to check with the local track about running nitro with electric. The 4x4 class hasn't really taken off here. Over the summer at my lhs track the most we had was 5 or 6, usually only 3-4. 2wd is where it's really at for competition

Sorry, I would not care to run with your nitro in a field of electric rides. I think you would end up running in 1/8 scale nitro buggy around here. I've never came across a 1/10 nitro sc at the track though.

It's winter most places now in the States, indoor electric is where it's at. What fun is 4wd on smooth tacky clay anyways?

Some of the funnest races I've been in was 4x4 sc outdoors on a loose track.
