Want a different setup for brushless in an rc 18T - 05.05.2006, 11:00 PM

I have just bought an associated rc18t factory team. I want a different brushless setup, not that i got anything against Tekin and CC., just want something different. At this moment i'm looking at the Lehner 10 series and have a few questions:

Is it better to go low RPM high Volt or high RPM and low volt?
(considering the size and capacity of the batteries I'm interested in opinions)

Which motor size should i go with 1010, 1015 or 1020?

What wind will i want to shoot for?

what ESC do i need for the motor? (as i said nothing against those mentioned, just want something different, but will consider them)

Mike, can you get the 10 series and how much will it cost through you? (PM me if you don't want to discuss price here)

This is a racer and a basher so it will have to be a good setup and last a long time, also it will be run on 6 cell till i can afford Lipo's(2 or 3s depending on setup)

Thanks for any info you can share and all ideas will be considered toward final setup.

I'm sorry i forgot the link to the info on the motorshttp://www.bk-electronics.com/catalo...p?cPath=35_147

Work because i gotta, play because i wanna

People here hate Nitro, I love it. I start it, run it about 50 ft from me and it dies, I go after it. Perfect exercise

Hey Crazy,
Check out the current issue of XRC (june 06). They have a "Mini Brushless Guide" on page 136. There are 3 company's that they list, the two that you mentioned and the 3rd is the Sky & Technology Quark ESC.
Where the CC & Tekin ESC is rated at 25A and up to a 3s LiPo, the Quark offers a 22A & 33A with up to 5s LiPo and also 65A, 80A, & 125A with up to 6s LiPo!
Now the motor that they recomend with that controller is a Hacker EL-30 13L, but I'm not sure if that motor will work with all of those controllers or not.

Well as Johnny said, i would go with the Quark esc, but as for motors, im not sure of the length you can use. Check and see. If a 1010, I would use a 1010/30 on 3s lipo. If a 1015, I would use a 1015/23 (a 1020 has the same kv as the 1010/30 but has more torque so gear higher with a lower kv), with 3s lipo. If a 1020, I would use a 1020/18, again because of higher torque.

I agree, I have a Quark 33 pro in my inferno with a hacker and it rips. Email Frank@Quark.com and tell him what you are doing and he will recommend the best esc and hacker motor for you. He knows about this stuff, he just won the 18th scale National event with this setup.

I had a Mamba that I had terrible cogging problems with to the point that I gave it away because I was so dissapointed in it. That is how I came across the Quark, and I have had no problems with it what so ever.:027:

As for the article, be aware that although the review of the Quark controllers were favorable, the pricing on them was mentioned as too high. This was a misprint on the magazines side. They had wrong prices listed for some of the controllers which made them seem like they were overpriced compared to their competition, when in fact in some cases they were less.

I don't know about the small lehners but the bigger ones are nice. They seem to be the best motor run yet.

Peace!

Ok i came up with a setup and want your opinions. I plan to use a Lehner 1015/12 turn motor http://b-p-p.com/proddetail.php?prod...ehner1015%2F12 with a Quark 33 amp esc http://b-p-p.com/proddetail.php?prod=ea_Quark33Car and a hyperion litestorm 20c 1800 pack http://b-p-p.com/proddetail.php?prod=d_H1800VX. I'd like to hear what you think, is it a good setup or not and be honest and explain your opinion

i personally think that a slower motor on 3s would be better.

may consider it right now i'm looking at if they set a 7.2/7.4 limit on batteries.

I'd also recommend the Hyperion lineup of motors. I've got a 6000kv in my Vendetta and absolutely love it. It'll save you quite a bit of $ too since the Lehner is extremely pricey compared to others that size.

well i talked to the guy who will run the track and he says no lipo, so ok no big deal. With the batteries these days they are ok, just need to invest in quality for brushless
