anyone else into F1 cars?
its been quiet around here this year, (most likely paralyzed's fault)
so i thought i would show off my unfinished F1 car that im working on
its started life as an 3Racing FGX but there isnt going to be much stock left on it when it hits the road
im still waiting on a ball diff and some exotek parts
i havent decided what im going to power it with, most likely 2s with a 13.5t speed passion motor to go with the new speed passion Reventon esc i picked up afew weeks ago
here is what the FGX starts life like

Yes, Me.
I have a Tamiya F201 with Mamba Max 7700 power on 2s1p A123 2300mAh. It handles superbly but then it has full four wheel indepedent double wishbone suspension all round with pushrod operated oil filled shocks. and despite it being banned from F1 in '82 four wheel drive with front and rear adjustable ball diffs.
I like the look of that modern body on yours, and want to turn mine from a 2001 Ferrari into a 2010 Lotus, could you measure up and give me the key dimensions to see if that body will fit on mine please? My dimensions are:-
wheelbase: 280mm
track: 193mm front and rear
sidepod height: 60mm above ground
sidepod width:155mm
nose width:43mm at rear arm, 36mm at front arm
nose length: 90mm in front of front arm
Hot Bodies Lightning 2 Pro carbon, Mega 22/30/2, MMM, 4s3-5Ah.
Tamiya F201 carbon, Mamba 7700, MM, 2s A123 2.3ah.
Xray XT8, 1518, MMM, 4s5Ah.
Lots of boats.

How does the tamiya handle the 7700 motor? are the gearboxes on the tamiya kits able to handle serious brushless power?

they are good, i had an F201 afew years ago, i sold it because parts got very hard to get outside of ebay, mine help up to a 5600kv mm very well with afew upgrades
from owning both i can tell you the 3racing body will not fit an F201, its a newer high nose style body

If the height of the nose is the only problem I can easily fab something to fix that, I'm wanting the modern (but not this year's) look so would be raising it anyway, maybe using the 3racing wing as mine doesn't have any of the endplate elements modern ones have, or fab up some mods for mine.
I have to buy all my parts on Ebay, unfortunately you have to but they are not inflated prices for rarity yet so that is fine by me, tyres are the main thing the best aftermarket tyres seem to be drying up, I may have to resort to using tamiya ones again at some point and they are not as grippy. My gearbox has held up well so far all stock, I upgraded my diffs to the lightweight ones, as a preventative measure while my originals were still good, most of my mods are to the suspension, if you want working suspension rather than it being a pan car like all the rest I recommend removal of the white glass spring at the bottom of the front suspension which allows it to work at the front, and upgrading to heavyweight A arms, metal bellcranks and Oringing all the balljoints allows the shocks to actually do there job rather than flex/slop soaking up the movement before it gets to them, I also fitted a 3racing carbon chassis and alloy motor mount but quite frankly its just a bit of bling, though it saves weight it is hardly any stiffer than the stock tub and didn't effect the handling.
