Mamba max (not pro) and 4s - 12.03.2013, 11:21 AM

I have read the mamba max is 4s capable with an external bec. I have installed an external bec and clipped the red wire on the receiver plug just like I should. When I plug in 4s it won't do anything. I'm sure it's sensing over voltage and protecting itself. Can this be overridden without a computer engineering degree?

3s is fine on most of my brushless motors, but this is on a 3.3 revo/emaxx tranny/titan 550 based crawling truck, and the titan 550s need a little more than 3s voltage.

Is it perhaps because my auto lipo detection is on and it knows there is more than 3s hooked up? I know many have successfully run 4s on the mamba max.

Mine works fine on 4s.

Try taking a little bit of the battery charge off. maybe around 4.10 or 4.00volts and see if that works. Should only be a little off the entire runtime.

May not work with auto lipo... set the voltage cut off manually.

I recall mine only worked with manual cut-off set.

Does the ESC have a fast flashing red LED? If so then the ESC has newer firmware with the over-voltage protection feature. Rolling it back to an older firmware version should resolve the issue.

I dont think it was doing anything. No beep, no lights or anything. I tried cutting off auto lipo today. Still no go. I'll check to see what version firmware it has.

Im using version 1.39 beta. Need I roll back to something else? No flashing red light, just nothing. I ran my pack down to 15.8v, and still nothing. Fresh charged 3s pack works like a charm.

Try 1.24 - I've run mine happily on 5s in the past.

I appreciate it! Will do. Would I lose any programming functions that you know of?

You will loose torque control... I think most of the ones I ran on 4s were 1.21.

I dont care for torque control anyway. I tried it in my mm/5700 rusty and was not a fan. Right now I switch this esc back and forth between my rusty and my crawler...thing. It will probably be retired solely to the crawler if it proves to drive twin brushed titans on 4s while crawling well. Then I certainly won't need it.

I have two files saved that I switch between, one crawler profile and one racing rusty file. Could i even run different firmware between profiles?

Profile change won't change the firmware... you would have to change that separately.
