where to buy 5mm bore pinions? - 03.24.2005, 09:12 PM

Since rc-monster wont be stocking these for a while, i would like to know where i can purchase these elsewhere? I asked starluckrc if they only have the one 32 5mm bore pinion in their store, so im still waiting for the reply. And i've been trying www.finedesignrc.com but their site seems to be down. I am clueless where to turn for my 32 pitch 5mm bore pinions? :W:

-Edit-

finedesign works now... just ordered them. I feel bad since i heard he has the worst customer service ever known, but in desperate times you need to make desperate decisions.

The Fine design pinions are drilled out Robinson gears. With a 5mm bore, there isn't enough meat left to get a strong grip with the set screw. You may be better off waiting a bit.

Good decision. Those pinions are worthless in my opinion. For the record, I had (still have) 5mm bore pinions in 32 pitch. I was unhappy with the quality so I removed them from my site. I have been searching for a better quality pinion since then. If I wouldn't use it(for quality reasons), I don't want to sell it.

Starluck has true 5mm mod 1's and 32s pinions. Not drilled or anything.

Ive got ants in my pants and i want to run my brushless system once it arrives... just some speed runs... hehehe

should i purchase the 16t pinion from starluck then? are they durable? What kind of speed will i see with the 9918 + 9l on 14 cells with 16/66 or 16/70 or 16/72 gearing on my emaxx?

Thanks!

I am sure the Starluck gears are fine. Jamie seems to be pretty quality oriented and is not likely to sell junk. the 9L on 14 cells(quality cells) will probably run in the mid to upper 30s with those gear ratios, assuming stock diffs and stock size tires.

I use 24 (soon to be 29 custom made! bling bling!) tooth pinions with 51 tooth spur. On my very, small (unextended), almost stock truck, my 18 cell and feigao 8xl just flys. 24-51 just is too much acceleration, can't controll it. I mean i could just dumb down the transmitter, but who wants to do that? Thats why i'm getting a FAT pinion gear!

You can get pinion gears at stock drive products: www.sdp-si.com
32 pitch with a metric bore isn't going to be standard though. You'll probably need to get a slightly smaller bore and bore it out or use some plastic shim stock.

My BL has a 1/16th bore and I'm using a 32 pitch gear.

Cheers

So are 32 pitch gears popular still with brushless??

I was thinking just getting Module 1 gears.

Hmm interesting.

And yes I bought a bunch many moons ago from FineDesignsRC and those pinions are just bored out RRP ones bah humbug..

SDP-SI hmm they are cool but alot of their stuff is for industrial use tho I did buy a bunch of stainless steel splined telescoping universals from them.

Never tried them, but they look promising
