Any recommendations for gearing? - 10.10.2006, 04:09 PM

I've done quite a few searches on the forum and can't seem to find answers that agree. I've got an E-Maxx that I'm hopping up and about to buy a new motor for. I plan to run a 9920 and probably purchase a 540C 8XL. I'm wanting to run anywhere between 12-16 cells. By the way, I'll be using UE 8 Spyder diffs in FLM Hybrid Bulks, GMaxx single speed conversion and MIP CVD's all around. Any help would be appreciated. I'm really hoping to narrow it down to about 3 different pinion tooth counts. Any suggestions on gearing with using a 66T spur?

Ok, assumming your using the RRP set up. Or 32 pitch, start at 16/66, this gives you a ratio of 4.125. You should be about good there on 12-14 cells. 16 cells may run a tad warm, not sure, but you can always bump it down to 14. I used a 16 with 9920/9xl with mod1 and it ran real cool, but it was only at 3.18, should have been running the 20 ;) on 14 cells!

Unless I'm missing something, 14cells at 1.2V with 16:66 gearing on 6" tires (neglecting ballooning) would only result in 26.6mph. That's a bit slower than I'd like it to be. I'd prefer it to be somewhere in the 33-37mph range or higher if possible. If that means going with a different motor, that's a possibility, as I haven't bought the 8XL yet.

No, the 8XL is great for 14-16 cells.

a 24-26 would be nice to start with..

Excellent! Thanks for the info. I was hoping that it would have plenty of torque for that size pinion.

24 26 pinion? Holy hell! That is huge! Sorry for the miss info! But of course, i did not read that u had ue diffs! Ooooppss! man, i jsut think that it would run warm on that size. My girls truck ran real hot for some reason with the rrp with the 20/66 on 14 cells.
