Not Happy! - 10.07.2006, 09:08 AM

Im quite annoyed right now. I put my front arms onto the front VBS yesterday, and was doing the rears today, but I had the lower hingepins in the wrong bulkless (front in back). So I went to take the front pins out, and they were not coming out! I managed to get one out with alot of force, but this second one is not moving if a truck hit it! I tried using an old maxx hingepin to push it through in a vice, and I snapped the hingepin. The pin was oiled to help come out, and it still hasnt moved. It's moved about 10mm through, but apart from that, its not budging.

It is the lower front left. Has the most recent VBS or hingepin batch been faulty?

Does anyone know what to do? :(

If you've been driving your truck, you most likely bent the hinge pin. Since aluminum doesn't want to move to the new curve of the hinge pin, it gets stuck. If you have a dremel you can try cutting the pin into pieces, and then pull them out.

It's never been used. All parts are brand new.

Well in that case, I'll let somebody else reply...

As per the instructions with the VBS, there is likely some polish and possibly a small bur on the inside of the hinge pin holes. This will "hang up" your hinge pins in a hurry, but you should be able to get the hinge pin back out with a little effort. I will assume the VBS isn't installed on the truck(otherwise you have no chance of getting the hinge pin out). I typically use one of the 2mm wrenches(Integy/RDLogics - any straight wrench with a handle) and a hammer(mild taps-don't try to get it out in one shot!). It will come out with patience. Before you install the hinge pins again, take a 1/8" drill bit at low rpm and run it through the hinge pin holes a little until you can slide the hinge pins in and out without any bind. Take your time with this, as you surely don't want to destroy the $$ VBS in the process. The good news is - once you get the proper hinge pins in place and the suspension working smoothly, you won't likely have to touch it for a while. I don't think I have had to take a hinge pin out of my truck in over 2 years(and this is my racer). :)

Well guys I got it. I got an old screwdriver, put it on the hingepin, and, to put it lightly, whacked it to death. The end of the pin looks a little bent. I'm gonna sand the pin a little to make sure it is smooth, straigten it, and then I should be ok.

Mike, i'll keep that in mind if I have this happen again. :)

Tough time - 10.13.2006, 11:49 AM

I had a very difficult time getting the hinge pins in the first time, Was almost like the holes were not properly drilled in alignment. Also had to file the VBS to get the arms on as there was insufficient clearance for the arms to move freely
