CC and 8/9xl - 10.23.2006, 11:51 PM

Since you all think I should go sensorless, I thought of the Mamba ESC, and a 8 or 9xl? Ill be running 14 cells. I want more runtime then speed. Top speed, runtime, gearing? So the ESC is rated to 12 cells, but if I get the external 6v BEC it should run fine, correct? If I had metal diff cases and diff holders, the stock diff gear should be fine? What motor would you recomend? 8xl or 9xl 540c. Would I be able to adjust all the settings like, torqe curve, drag brake, brake, and all that good stuff? Would this be fun to drive?

Also how is the fastlane chassis? Where do you get the battery hold downs?

MM ESC $140
8/9xl $ 90
6v BEC $ 40
--------------
$ 270

The Mamba is the most adjustable controller on the market...

I haven't run the XL motors, but I would say the 9XL is enough based on what others say. Either one will work fine imo.... you can just gear them slightly different and get similar results anyway.

You can find a bec for $15 btw...

My MMax and 8xl is an absolute blast to drive. Very powerful setup and reasonable runtimes. If you'd like more runtime you can get the 9xl, I'm sure it would still rock, else get more batts and/or lipos.

As far as diffs: are you driving an EMaxx Emaxx? :) I would say no. My emaxx diffs never lasted (crappy 2mm screws break) even with titans and the alu cases and bulkheads. It may be a bit better if you used 2nd gear only and locked the drive dog to the 2nd gear output in the tranny so the gears don't spin around & slam together every time you brake or reverse. (obvious what I mean if you look at the tranny.)

Still tho I would upgrade. I have yet to trash my stock Revo diffs (w/ locked Emaxx tranny) in 2 mos of hard BL use for what its worth.

Odd.....the REVO diffs are not much different than the E-Maxx diffs with the exception of the gear ratio and the seals. I believe the diffs use 2.5mm screws too.

No breakage though? Cool.

My Revo has been flawless w/3.3 power for what it's worth.

I'll also be able to tell you how well my maxx diffs manage with brushless now that my parts are finally returning from FLM and everything is suppose to line up corrrectly for assembly now.
My combo: GA Bulks & Housings, FLM Cups & Gears, & Proprietary Lube (no jokes please!).

So what does the runtime compared to a HV 6.5? So with a bec on the CC, 14 cells will be fine? Could I run a BEC on the EVX? So it could handle 16 cells?

Well, the HV 6.5 is a lower power system, so runtimes will be longer. However runtimes with above setups are not bad. I get ~10 min hard non-stop bashing w/ the 8xl on 2800 mah (what the batts charge back to.)

2300mah? About the BEC on the EVX, could thid be done? So you can drop in your freshly charged packs. My GP4300 7 cells charge up about 18 volts! Cause wont it studder till it drops to 16.8 volts?

An external BEC can be used w/ any ESC as long as the battery voltage is above the BEC output voltage. The EVX would mostly benefit from reduced heat. I'm not sure what you are saying about the stutter tho.:032:

Most NIMH cells charge to ~1.45V/cell right off the charger than quickly drop. I have an 8 cell pack that charges to ~11.5V, but its still a "9.6V' battery. My 14 cell pack charges to ~21V right off the charger. The EVX never had a prob with it.
