Losing my mind! - 10.26.2006, 09:34 PM

Ok guys please help me out here. I'm an 18 year rc veteran and a brushless newbie.

I'm building a brushless MT2 which I have posted pics of. I bought an MT2 SS that came with an MGM Comp 8012 and a feigao 8s. I have had my heart set on a Mamba MAX 4600 set-up from day one.

Should I unload what I have and go for the Mamba? Should I go for the Mamba controller only?

I'll be using 12 GP3300 cells. No Lipo.

Why do you want to switch? Is there something you aren't happy with on the current setup? It sounds ok to me unless you want a slightly more powerful ESC.

I haven't used the set-up yet because I'm still waiting for parts from the machine shop.

My biggest concern is the programmimg. I down loaded the manual and it reads like brain surgery. I have a mamba 6800 in my RC18T and the programing is pretty easy.

I wanted to get a feel for the set-up I have and see if I'm on the right path.

12 cells is too much for the 8s motor. I'd recommend keeping the esc and getting a feigao 12s motor to go with it if you want to save money. But if you've got the funds, go ahead and splurge for the MM4600.

Hard choice.

The 8S will have more torque than the mamba 4600, but the mamba, well.. You said it, is very nice to program.. 12 cells is insane.

Thanks guys.

I may just toss the current set-up in my stampede or RS4 and bash with 6 cells.

I have the funds for the MM4600 so I think I'll just go for it. From what I have read here on the forum the 4600 sounds like a better choice than the 5700 since I'm running 12 cells.

Any suggestions on where to buy a UBEC? I would assume I should use on with 12 cells.

Thanks again.

You should be ok with the 4600 and 12 cells... that's within Castle's specs.

but theres nothing wrong with using a ubec anyway. It can only keep the esc happy-er....

Mike has one in his store, but I don't know if it's in stock. Otherwise, Helidirect has a good one for about $15. That's what I'm using.
