Why the standoffs on the battery holders?

Thats something he has to work on. It only needs standoffs on one side to clear the brake linkage, and even then they could still be cut in half. He's using the Savage two speed trans and mechanical brakes so he can run the more powerful 7XL without heat issues.

Hey smhertzog thanks for posting my pics. The standoffs came with a kit that I bought (Kershaw Designs). The truck is still in the experimental phase, but I'm sure I can fix the standoffs. As for the body I have a crowd pleazer but until I get the batteries tighter to the body it will never fit.

Thanks for the compliments. I'm thinking Mamba Max but I'm not sure yet.
And yes those are Team Orion 4800's, I have a couple sets of Nimh's but I thought the Lipos would make for a better picture.
Is anyone using an HPI three speed with their BL conversion? I was thinking of picking one up.

RJ
I have a similar project going on for my brother inlaw. A rebuilt savage. I am at the cross roads now of what battery esc motor combo. It has a brand new three speed in it so it has not been run yet. I used some kyosho battery trays mounted to the sides. I am wondering if a 4s 8xl w/9920 or Mamba Max will be enough to power it. I have a 13t mod1 pinion w/stock spur. Any Ideas or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. With that type of setup do you think 30-35 mph is possible? Top speed is not so much a factor as I want the truck to be fun for him.

Thanks,
The CAPT

I used the three speed in my savage. It is a pita to adjust the 2nd gear change.
I not really sure you need the extra gear. The lower first is nice for crawling around though.

Peace!
