L or XL? Dual SS5800s

Im trying to come to a decision on a power plant for my Revo conversion. Whats the difference other than size? The 8L seems to be a popular choice. Why is that?

It may be a while before I can new buy a new motor and esc but for the meanwhile I have a EVX I can borrow, Id just have to buy a set of titans. I was also thinking, :dft001: don’t laugh :dft001: , installing a pair of Novak SS5800s that I have. Do you think the dual novaks will work or should I not even bother and go with evx?

well they would heat up but if u absolutely had to u could but i wouldnt i would do the titans because thats alot of money if they fry:035: :035:

The L motors run fast but hot. You are better off w/ a XL motor, plus it has tons of TQ which a MT will just love.

Don't do the 5800s. Work with the titan until you are ready. You could even sell that extra stuff and get a proper BL setup withthe money anyway

Very true, just wondered myself why the assumption was there? The only thing I could think of without tons of inestigating was that they are out....oh well.

Don't get me started, i'm on non speaking terms with them at this moment..

Socks are doing fine, i allmost feel oblidged to wear them.. We connected on such a possitive way.. They are still pissed for the 1200rpm drying process though..

Perhaps the article of the e-revo with the 8L got him on the wrong foot? or he is mixxing the 8L with the 8XL..

I tried a dual hv setup. I was happier with an xl motor.

Yeah thats pretty much it. Why would they use an L insted of an xl?

Say I do decide to go with a XL, What controller should i pair it with? What gearing and how many cells should I run to keep temps acceptable. I want to keep everything under $400

I would highly recommend a 4S lipo or 14 cell battery, a 8XL, a mamba max ESC w/ a small fan (25-40mm) and an external BEC or Rx pack.

This is the setup I have, and it has a pretty good balance of everything: cost, power, heat and runtime. The MMax can take a bit more voltage, so its safe, but it really starts to get nutty after that, and you'd have to be careful to keep temps down.

A 4S setup would be excellent, fast and reliable. If you go for maxamps or such 8000 mAh lipos you'd get ~30 min runtime for a very reasonable cost. you can also tune it a turn up or down on the motor to get more speed or more runtime.
