Hey serumAnd superdave420..need MBX4 pics please - 01.02.2007, 05:22 AM

Hey guys....i just joined up yesterday , and have been breezing through all these forums for last few hours (4 hours i think?) Anyways......I was going through all the conversions guys have made on 1/8th scales and i came across a thread where both of you we're showing some pics of your MBX-4's...........I fell out of my chair!!

I have always loved this buggy , and don't think i'll ever sell any of mine. i have 4 of them put together right now (all MBX-4 XR Works) and have enough spare parts to probably build three more.

when i was driving alot all the way up to about a year ago , i would always take both my mugen and my Kyosho kanai's. I would drive the kanai until i got fed up with fixing it , then i'd pull out my trusty MBX-4 and drive the rest of the day without even having a screw come loose!!

this is why i never sold any of them , and probably never will.

anyways....i decided to convert one of my MBX-4's into electric. And was wondering if you have time to post some pictures of it.

I have the exact motor mount i bought about a year ago off ebay that one of you guys are running. I just wanted to see some finished pics of what i might expect.

I am thing of wanting to go with a NEU motor , and not sure of the ESC yet. was thinking of maybe possibly waiting for the Mamba monster maxx but i don't know when it's coming out. I plan on running 3-4 cell lipo's with it also.

I'm new to the elctric thing , so any advice or info you guys can give me would be great. Thanks again!!

Hi Jeff!

Welcome to the forum!

I just sold mine, i don't have got a track here and i like MT's/Truggies,

I'm afraid i can't really help you on the photo's..

But to tell you the truth, i liked mine a lot, and it took me about a month before i was ready to sell it.. It was a blast. Very durable indeed.(as with most of the fine Mugens)

As for your motor/controller options;

Take 4S, get the mamba-maxx controller (with a Ubec it takes 4S with ease)

the mamba maxx is able to push a Neu motor around.

Another option is a Quark 125.

I have been reading some issues with a 4 pole motors.
So the mamba max may be questionible choice.
Quark will push them no prob.

Peace!

go with the quark 125b as an ESC and maybe a Lehner(a bit pricey though) with the RC monster heat sink. or go with a 7XL best bang for the buck. As far as i know the mamba monster maxx system will be out some time between late spring and late summer i think. Sorry no pics because i don't have one but i am thinking about one because they are cool i am thinking of a hyper 8 but someone will have some pics i assume because many people have these conversions. TRY BUGGY, TRUGGY, OR CONVERSION IN THE SEARCH BOX AND YOU MIGHT FIND SOME PICS.

Ok.....thanks guys for the info. So lets say i go with the QUARK 125 , i guess i'll have to decide on the motor. Between the NEU's , PLENT and LEH's i guess.

Will The Quark 125 handle the 4S, and will it be enough to push a 1/8th around competitivly. And also , what if i was to switch this conversion over later to a truggy , would it have enough juice?

and if not........will the qaurk 125 handle 5S lipo , or will i have to go with something better? Not looking to really mess around with high speed road racing , but need something with alot of tourqe.

Small track i run is an indoor , needing top speeds of about 25-35 and some of the bigger outdoor tracks i run look like around 40-45 , or maybe a smidge more.

thanks guys!!

The quark will handle up to 6s, but not reccomended, 5s will be no problem for the 125B.

The problem with nitro's these days are that they arent brushless... LOL

VERY COOL!! i would think then with a Qaurk 125 and a descent NEU , Plent , Leh ect motor , it should push around an 1/8th scale pretty good then? How would 3-4S packs work for racing purpose?

Also.......since i'm new to this electric conversion stuff (new to electric everything really) When choosing a motor , and wanting to get the type of speeds i need with a lot of torque (torque probably being the most impotant) what do i need to look for? A lower turn type motor , or a higher turn type motor? There are so many out there i don't know what to look for.

4S is pretty much the ultimate racing setup, light, enough power and speed.

As for the motor, in a buggy the ultimate would be a Lehner 1930/1940, or a Neu 15xx.. For you id reccomend the 1940 7/8 turn on 4S.

OK..so i go with a Qaurk 125 esc , and if i run 3-5S lipo's. If i'm looking for a motor that will get me really good low end torque for the tight , smaller type tracks ( 25-35mph 3-4S lipo ) and then can gear it up a little or add another cell (4-5S) for some larger tracks with a speed of between 40-45 mph , plus a little more , what am i to look for? Something mid-range out of the group listed below? i have no idea what to look for. just looking for an all around good motor that will work well on both type tracks for an 1/8yh scale.

keep in mind , that i'm wanting to build something similar for an 1/8th scale truggy too........will the same system work in both?

thanks guys!!
