cbp are no good! - 02.14.2007, 08:43 PM

i ordered (for x mas) 2 ellite packs that were 8 cells, and 2 8
cell packs of in 4200, bolth have the upgrade, 12 guage wire, and
deans

now lately i have been diving and noteced my packs were HOT HOT
HOT but i temp all the cells and the cells i touched were the last 2
cells and they were 191.3 degrees and all the rest were 113.1 and .2
and so on through the pack.. so i chraged it at 1 amp to ballance it
and ballenced fine and went out to run it and got these same temps
but faster and my shrink stated to melt, and guss why? the 2 last cell
were 196.7!!!!! so i cooled them off and took out the bad cells and..

OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the power increase was sooo insane it wasnt funny!!
those cells were bad since day 1 and when i drove my truck like this
it will backflip at any speed with punch at 50%!! and all the rest of
power stuff is the lowest possible

now this is wierd to me so the cells were killing performence, and
when the shrink came off there was cell that had glue on them like
they stock them togather and figured they put a cell in wrong or
something so they ripped it off and re glued it..

just a heads up from cbp, and every pack does this!! so theres 8 bad
cells!!! i havent ripped the others aprt yet because i dont feel like
doing it as its a pain with no 3rd hand tool and a jig so i stopped here

what is up here? usually they make good packs, has anyone else had this prob?

Ive heard about dead cells from CBP on the traxxas forums a while ago. Imo i wouldnt buy off them, id either buy off Mike, maxamps, or boomboombatteries.

The problem with nitro's these days are that they arent brushless... LOL

That's too bad... glad you got them "fixed". ;)

In defense of CBP they don't make the cells and I can't imagine they are intentional putting bad cells in every pack. But obviously there is a quality control issue with the battery mfg. of the cells.

That's strange...maybe Elite have made a bad batch of cells? I've been using two 8-cell Elite 4500 packs from CBP, with the upgrade (end-end solder, 12G Deans wire etc) and they've been superb! Built to a high standard, and the cells have been putting out great power and runtime. I'd definitely buy from them again.
I don't think you can blame CBP for a bunch of bad cells, to be fair...

I use CBP all the time and have no problems but then again I buy single cells and build them myself.

I bought 14 loose cell Elite 4500's from CBP and soldered them myself. I think there pretty good batteries and I like them more than my GP 3300's.
CBP has a 30 day warranty I think, on packs they make, if you don't modify the pack or do something stupid with it.

The main reason I wouldnt buy from them is...when they assemble packs they dont line the labels up. When you pay for good brand cells, you dont want to see the label on one and the warning on the next, and the recycle procedure on the next. They can keep that junk. If its too much trouble to line them up, its too much trouble for me to order them.
