It is rated for 16, i wouldnt surpass that.

The problem with nitro's these days are that they arent brushless... LOL

there's always the mgm 160/24 if you need more.

Just go for the 16024. That way you'll be sure everything is fine when you want to go higher in cell counts.

looking at your wishes, the 16016 should be enough.

Ok,

If you do not plan to use more then 16 cells then do not buy 24cells version. 24 cells version rated for 160A but capacitors which they use are not rated for that current. Bottom line you will gain higher efficiency running high voltage but you need to sacrifice current in order to achieve reliability, otherwise you will smoke MGM if not on the first run then on the second one for sure.

So, if I'm gonna run between 6 to 8 lipos, will that destroy the 16024?

12 cells is about equal to 4S, so 24 should be equal to about 8S. Should be fine.

Which motor you plan to use? If you keep you current under 75-100A you will be fine. The most important is braking current. The best would be to use mechanical brakes or high turn motors.

I'm using a high turn motor, indeed(1950/10= 1254RPM/V).

I will recommend to set light settings for brake, and watch for caps temperature. Adjust brake power (trim endpoints) to minimum and trim them up until they start warming up under hard braking.

One question: why so many 16024 controllers get smoked, I have read that:032: I will buy this controller, but I dont want get smoked controller... I have usin 4s lipos only, soon 6s . I buy 16024 because I can use every lipos 2 to 8s :027:

There is a weak link in MGM 16024 controller - capacitors, while controller itself rated for high current and high voltage, capacitors installed on 24V version have much higher internal resistance then the one with 16V version. So, what that have to do with smoke?, right, well capacitors play important role in suppressing high voltage spikes when FET's switching back and force and absorb punishment when you hit brakes. Capacitors with higher resistance work less efficient (generate more heat, by becoming warm/hot) thus allowing high voltages to pass to control electronics and if one of these spikes trigger wrong phase then you will get smoke. Temperature also degraded capacitor performance, so the rule is simple reduce the current as low as possible and if use low number of cells use lower voltage version.

I will say if you rate controller for power the you should be fine. Like 160A at 16V = 2560W, then at 24V you shouldn't draw more then 2560W / 24V = 106.6A.

And to be safe I won't draw 160A from 16V version either, maybe 120A, which corresponds to 1920W and to 80A at 24V.

Do I get this stupid problem with 16024 if I use only 20XL06 motor and 4s or 5s lipo ? I dont want get this problem and waiting for same reason 6 months for repairing only... Do I buy this 16024 controller or not? Is 16016 more safety and more smart controller ?

(sorry my bad english:010: )
