ev·o·lu·t-x-tion - change in the genetic composition - 12.19.2006, 09:20 PM

got my revo tranny....

got my powerplant from my "used" donor hyper 7

here's a "before" picture to show how much material i had to remove!!!

here's the updated motor mounts....still not done yet but basically the profile is somewhat final.....

gear mesh is adjusted by sliding the entire engine and mount along the crossbars...

glad to say that the ol' eye-ball-O-meter is still calibrated......

did a trial fit last night...and the spur and clutchbell line up perfectly! Haha.

right now...i have two choices .....
do i mount the tuned pipe inboard?
which i'm more inclined to do right now as it will look very trick but it will be VERY close to the throttle servo! say bout 10 to 15mm away....Q:will a servo fail being exposed to heat from a tuned pipe?

or

outboard?
for this i'd have to think of a solution to extend the header pipe to the outside of the chassis....this i've been told will alter the characteristics of the engine or i might reduce/lose the pulses needed to "pump" the fuel back into the engine....or BOTH!!!! any nitro experts care to comment/advise??? i'm a nitro noob as you can tell by now!

well, this is how far i've come so far.....any thoughts/comments/advice guys? TIA

hey no worries dude....thanks anywez...

well, decided to stay totally inboard for the tuned pipe.....

but i had to mill out material from the inside of the chassis plate for it to clear though.....
stinger exits very nicely out the chassis....

here's a rear end shot....everything within the chassis rails...stock width....

nice and neat...

here's a pic of the throttle direction changeroo thinggamajigg!!!

here's the motor mount with the "finish" i was going for.....

please ignore the 4mm screws i used to hold the motor to the mount!!!....those will be changed once i get a chance to go buy some nice hex ones..

from these raw blocks ...

to these....

can't believe how much i actually milled off!!!!

I'm not exactly a Nitro expert, but I do know that the header pipe length and diameter does make a difference. It would probably be better to extend the actual exhaust tip as long as it isn't restricting.

If you are concerned about heat from the pipe, what about fashioning a heat shield out of some 1/16" carbon fiber or similar material?

One thing I never liked about Nitro is the mess from the exhaust mixed with dust. It gets everywhere. That said, I would try to divert the exhaust as far outside the body as possible to keep things looking pretty.

Nice conversion BTW!

If you could make a rear exhaust that wold keep things much cleaner!

I'd donate a header pipe you could cut and modify (We'll have to see if they match but they look quite similar..

I was thinking. You could get like a revo header and turn the pipe out the rear as well. It wouldn't take much but some mounting for pipe. Less mess
going down chassis.

Peace!

hey! many thanks for the very kind words and offers!!(procharged5.0)......

yes i was contemplating buying a rear exhaust of ebay and that would solve all my problems......but then...where would the challenge be???
(translation: thats at least 65USD without shipping!!! too much for this cheapo to chew on! haha...)

i do intend to add on some tubing at the stinger and exit that out the rear of the truck......but only if its gonna look trick!!!. haha ...

if not...i'll just live with the mess...hah!!

i have since moved the throttle servo further away from the tune pipe...hopefully far enuf so that the heat will no longer be an issue??? have to wait and see tho....

a vid?? i sure do intend to have one on its maiden run.....to see the axles explode on the very first throttle!!!wahahahaha......my frens tell me this hyper 21 engine is capable of just doing that!!!

some clearer pics....finally!
throttle assembly is bolted directly to the motor mount so that adjusting the gear mesh will not mess with the throttle linkages...

here's a closeup of the extra material milled off to clear the pullstart...

the carb slider is actuated via a sloted link...

That was me, I want to do a custom tube chassied Gravedigger with a similar setup. My concernis that the diffs are oriented wrong for nitro, I was planning on using TXT-1 axles to
