Recommended Diff Upgrade

I've been snooping around this forum for several months and definitely seems like this is the place to be for brushless info. Anycase, on to my question...

I am planning to upgrade my diff to handle BL (when MMM comes out). I currently have gmaxx chassis, 3.3 sliders & knuckles, GA bulks, and stock diffs. What do you all recommend would be the most affordable upgrade for my stock diffs to handle BL? I was thinking of integy alum diffs with FLM diff cup with Modified Traxxas gear combo. Good?

Also, besides strobe and idler gear, any other non-electrical upgrades I'll need for BL?

You don't need it, but the Gorillamaxx single speed conversion is recomended. As for diffs. You would ultimately want to get hybrid diff cases and hot bodies diffs. But for cheaper, you can get the FLM combo bulks and the diff cup like you said. I'd recomend staying away from integy.

I am using the Integy housings. (the only integy part i have got to tell you the truth) Them, in combination with maximizer 7075 cups make a tough combination. Make sure to get some shimms to mesh them properly.

My personal experience is that nothing beat 7075 for diffcups. the 6061's are rather weak, and the pin will eat its way in the aluminum.

If you are planning on getting a very strong setup, i would advice you to use 1/8th diffs. (getting the FLM hybrids is a good option then) in this case it's more of a set and forget diff.

If you can't find maximizer cups, Nova RC (Mike can get) has them too....7075. Like serum said though, you can get 1/8th diffs and be done with it. I have ran my UE diffs not for sometime with no rebuild, but that is on the spendy side.

I would for certain take serums suggestions though.

sorry for the hijack but i had a diff question as well. I have flm combo bulks with flm diff cases with robinson racing gears. After several hard runs with the new Neu, the spyder gears chipped. Are there any upgrades to this without having upgrade to hb 1/8 diffs and hybrid bulks?


btw I recommend flm or maximizer diffs as well over the integy. I have the combo bulks which have been great, but now with this problem I wish I went with the hybrids!

looks like my best bet is what Serum suggested w/ integy housing and maximizer cups. though flm hybrids would be nice, i just bought my GA bulks and hate to ditch them. plus, i really like the GA bulks; awesome design and durability.

where do you find/buy shims?

Not sure on this, but I think one of the HB diffs will fit the Combo bulks? Not srue though, ask squee about the HB's.....

I'm trying bulletproof my diffs w/o having to upgrade to hybrids and 1/8ths.

first time - broke plastic diffs and upgramded to flm aluminum
sec time - stock ring gear chipped so upgraded to robinson racing ring and pinion
third time - spyder gears chipped so i have spare traxxas spyders but haven't installed cause i want a better solution.

I was thinking of UE but don't know what to order exactly or just go with hb's or a member's advice?

Either the UE's or the HB's are 1/8th diffs and require a special housing. there are several options for housings; the UE housings or bulkless or the FLM 1/8th bulkless.

Both options (UE/FLM) fit the HB or the UE diffs.

You only have so many options. I would go with the FLM Hybrids with HB Lightning diffs (not Pro). That would be the best setup for the money. The next best thing is the FLM Combo bulks and some good stock replacement diffs. I personally don't like the stock diffs because you can't tune them with oil....

I have ACNCM bulks, would my best and cheapest option be the maximizer serup. I realise the HB diffs are stronger but I would hate to throw away my aluminum bulks and buy the hybrid setup...

ACNCM isn't that great of stuff. I had some and didn't like them much. Best option would be HB diffs. You could seel the ones you have and pay for part of the diffs before they get trashed, which is inevitable.
