RC10GT convert or not? - 03.30.2007, 10:17 AM

I have a AE RC10GT RtR statium truck that is obviously nitro right now. I've been thinking about selling the truck and buying a electric statium truck and then put a Mamba Max setup in it. My question is, would be is it worth converting my current truck to electric or would I be better in the long run to just start with an electric and stay electric?
Thanks for all of the help in advance.

Nick

pros and cons to both i guess, the GT will probably be that bit stronger, atleast in the transmission so you may have a little less maintenance whereas the electric will have the better weight distribution with the rear motor layout, and you won't have the job of converting it.with the GT you have the motor in front of the tranny so you probably won't get the pack in length ways to get the weight down the centre line and i'd run a reciever pack behind the transmission for the extra traction.either is a fine idea though.

Thanks for the reply Gustav I appreciate your input. I'm still undecided on what to do, I took a pic of the truck all together stock and then I took another pic of it all stripped down.
Heres the pics, let me know what you all think of the room that I have available.

Before

After

Thanks again,
Nick

Cool. It actually doesn't look to be too hard of a set up. Kind of reminds me of the lay out on the jato.

Very similar to jato, looks like a good convertion, just change the steel spur to a plastic one.

The problem with nitro's these days are that they arent brushless... LOL

I had a converted rc10gt with a mm 5700. It was nice and handled great. I now have a AE rc10T team addition from around 1990. I got it for free from a very good friend; it was practically unused. It should have gone on the shelf but I just had to put the MM5700 with a 3s lipo. I have no problems with it at all. The transmission holds up fine, plus it uses almost all the same suspension components as the rc10gt, so parts are easily found...

So in short rc10gt's are great electric!

I would find some way to move that servo forward a little more, put in a 3s lipo and go with a MM 4600 or even the 5700. Should be quite fast. And yes, I'd get a plastic spur if possible...

Thanks for all of the replies. I'm sure I can get that steering servo moved up and a new spure gear. Does anyone make any type of engine mount that I can use for this conversion?

You can contact Mike about a motor mount. I think it can be a very good conversion, tons of room on that empty chassis.

I took a few more pictures today since I had some parts laying around. There all just sitting on the chassis, all of the wiring needs to be done, if I can do it with one of these layouts I would put plastic around the edges of the batteries to protect them and plastic around the esc in the back too. This seems like a simple way to do it, or rather easier. I dont know if this would be the correct way to put everything though?

Thanks,

Nick

Personally, I would find a better location for the esc if possible. Go lipo, you'll save a tad more room and some weight.

On top of the trans,in front of the shock tower looks like a good place to me(1st picture),looks like a good little platform there for it from what i can see and it's close to the motor to keep the motor wires nice and short.i'd still run a reciever pack on this one behind the trans to help with traction.

I agree that esc on top of the trans would be a good place to mount it. I can make a plastic mount for it there. What do you all think of the battery location?
