X1CR brushless conversion completed!

Just thought I would post some pics of the completed project. As you will notice in the pics I ended making another motor mount instead of the heatsink one tha I posted in an earlier thread. I also made a battery tray out of carbon fiber with alluminum front and Gorilla maxx straps. I am running the 6400 True Rc 7.4 packs wired in series and an 8 xl Feigo motor with 14/46 gearing. I ran it tonight and was pleased to say the least!:eek: :027:

Here is a pic that shows the layout a little better. One of my goals when I did this project was to leave the center diff where it was and to fit the components around it and still keep a good center of gravity and be well balenced. The only extra holes that where drilled and tapped are the holes for the batt tray and they are in the chassie stiffiner. It jumps great and even turns better than I expected. I have a Xray XB8 nitro that I run and it turns better than most others I have driven so I was a little worried about the jammin not turning as well but it is very close.:013: :027:

I like it too... The only thing that i would do if it was mine - would be to put some foam or double sided tape on the aluminum battery stop - to prevent the rubbing of the aluminum on the battery holder from scraping thru the end of the lipos - and maybe some velcro holding both batteries from sliding away from each other.... Other than that - looks great...

How are you liking the MM and 8xl combo? I am plannign on running the same set up. Also, what kind of speeds and temperatures are you getting running 14-46. I am planning on running 16-46, but it may be too hot.

A word of warning, I had an emaxx with with the motor mounted from the front of the can and an additional attachment point, two 4mm bolts through slots in the body and into a threaded motor heat sink. It worked very well even dropped my engine temp a little. But after a few weeks I noticed the front bell was loose, when I unbolted the rear mounting bolts the can just spun around on the bell. If not for the magnet it would have slid off easily. The mounting points spanned an area of the chssis that flexed. Your motor looks very close to the chassis plate. If it flexes and contacts your motor it might get ugly. CRTs are none to flex alot in that area. Then again maybe its just the picture angle.

smhertzog, Thanks for the warning. I was planing on putting a clamp from the end of the motor back to the motor mounting plate to help keep the motor together on landing s from jumping. The motor has about 2 mm of clearance to the chassie. Do you think that is enough? :032:

Thanks for the words of advice hotncold, and I will probably put velcro on the batts to keep them tight. As for the end of the batts. have you seen Tru RC's packs? They put somthing on the end of the packs when they build then so the end of the cells are protected. But I will keep an eye on that to.
