Details wanted on MM/Neu issue, any workarounds? -
05.22.2007, 04:45 PM
Been considering my next setup for Revo V2, and not liking any 6S sizes so far, I'm thinking of staying 4S and go w/ a Neu. Looking for a setup that would be race worthy, and I'm not wanting a Q125.
Until the MMM or R1MT comes, I wanted to use my MM. I've read plently that it cogs sometimes with a Neu, but not for everybody. What are the exact condits it cogs tho? Was this an issue of going reverse or brake then forward again, and cogging occurs (seemed like I read this at one point, but IDK)?
I'm setting up the Revo w/ manual brakes and no reverse, so I was wondering if this would skirt the issue. Doubt I'll be that lucky tho...
Thinking of going to a 1512, but recent threads are pushing me back to the 1515 1Y. Hmmmm

My understanding is the problems stem from the Neu motors being slotted. I think the only fix is a firmware flash that supposdly in the works.

Nope - that won't do it. I'm running my LST2 in that configuration. Early on I had no issues with cogging runing MM 1515 1y and 4s. It seems with time and eventually going to 5s and upping the gearing I've managed to push my luck and now the system cogs but only from a standing start.

The Neu 1512 2.5D/f that's in my Hyper 8 with the MM has a pretty nasty startup cog about half the time. However, it's only nasty if I yank the throttle. If I am easier on the throttle, it might cog at startup a little bit, but it doesn't cause any problems. I also must admit that the Hyper 8 is overgeared, since it is geared for ~48mph on 4s Lipo. The motor stays pretty cool, and the ESC doesn't thermal, so the temperatures aren't telling me it's overgeared, it's just the cogging that is.

The MM runs the Neu's fine it's just getting it to go it is set up for unsloted motors and needs an update to run sloted motors seems to be the problem. When is this update comming? from what Joe ford said not anytime soon I have also been waiting for the update or MMM to come out for about 6mo everyone keeps saying to run the Quark but it seems to have heat issues. After seeing Joe Fords responce the MMM is probably going to be another year before we see anything there so for right now you can eather deal with the cogging and wait for the update or run the Quark125 esc.:( If your running brakes you can also try the CC 85-110HV air controllers with a pixie Tx adapter to fix the signal problems with the brake and neutral.:032:

I don't know about the 1Y for a racing setup. I'm not running a Neu, but have tried motors with a similar kv rating. I suppose it depends on the track you're running on. I tried running a 2200kv motor and it was way too much for 4S. I suppose it might have been ok with 3S, but the anticipated current draw lead me away from that config.
I've progressively gone to lower and lower kv motors until I found something that I am really comfortable with on our relatively tight track. I am now running a 9XL, which is around an 1800kv motor. Running it 16/46, it's still one of the fastest, if not THE fastest truck on the track. I'd really have to give some consideration of either a 1512 1.5Y or 1515 2.5d.

Dang, yours was the one that had me thinking the most. :( Dammit its so frustrating as things are almost right, but not quite. MMs are great, but don't do Neus. LMTs are $$, German and consist OOS, Q125s are exp. and hot, and the MMM/MTs are almost here.. really this time.. ack...
Thanks for the tips on the turns. Was looking @ ~1700kv before, figure good on 4S, but can crank to 6S for insanity. Maybe the 2.5D would be a better compromise.. IDK, but until the controllers come together the Revolution is on hold. Its like standing at the foot of the Berlin Wall, but everyone forgot the hammers.:007:

No cogging there, that's good to hear. And tell your mailbox to stand still and not jump out in front of you next time! lol

I guess it was trying to tell me something when I hit the mailbox I broke a front turnbuckle I opened up the mailbox and my new Lundsford turnbuckles were sitting inside. :005:

Just to mention it again. My 8ight with a 1512 1.5D/F and MM doesn't cog. It has the same KV as my Plettenberg Maximum around 3100 rpm/v. I ran the Maximum with a 125b and MM, both don't cog. I do like the Neu better. It really lays down the power. Here is a short vid jumping at my local track with the LOSI-NEU.
