power tap for fan - 06.13.2005, 01:29 PM

anyone know if it's ok to tap power(5v-6v) for my NOVAK 4400 from the receiver(rs300/JR) for an extra fan(same one that comes with the system(for the esc) TO COOL THE MOTOR..???? racing in the heat brings the HV4400 up to the 180 thermal just before the end of the 5-min races...thanks.

The BEC is rated for 3amps, so I would forsee no problem with doing this...You could probably just tap power from the one fan that you've already got, I shouldn't see why this would harm the ESC - should hardly draw any current....

if i tap the motor fan into the esc fan's wires, would they both run slower(than just the existing esc fan, that is....).......also, how would adding a second fan affect run times....drastically..??? running 14 3300 cells.........

to be honest with you, I don't run a HV-maxx set-up so I can't be 100% sure. The tiny little fans draw a very small current, so providing you wire them in parallel they should both run at a high speed, and should barely affect runtimes (maybe 5 seconds less runtime....if that)

If you have a gear locked out(and an empty spot in your receiver due to the missing servo), you could plug a 5 volt fan into the receiver with no trouble at all. You could also wire a fan to the existing fan with no trouble. If you are thermalling, you may try to gear down a tooth as well.

thanks, mike...but i gotta tell ya that i'm already geared 13/70(locked in second) along with 3:31 ue diffs(14 cells in a very well set-up full race truck)........good news is that this weekend MIKE GENTRY had his hands full with thermals, as well......................think he's gonna drop back to 14 cells from the 16 that he's running now..............

Where were you guys this weekend? The RCMTRA race was at the Barn this weekend. I was looking forward to some stiff competition(Sammy did a good job, though!)!

You won't notice it in runtime.

The motor will be more effiecient when it's cooler..
