Cen truggy. - 06.05.2007, 01:15 PM

Hi everyone!

Long time reader first time poster! :)

I am thinking about converting CEN Matrix Arena truggy, but I cant find any information about any conversions made with this truggy.

Does anyone have any info about this? It does look a bit different with those odd chassi braces. That might be a problem but it could also be an advantage?

What do you guys think?

Welcome to the forums!

Wow, that bracing system is unique. Looks like a solid truggy by appearances, but that's how they all look in pictures. :) Don't know of anyone that's converted one yet, but I'm sure it's possible. You may have to fab up a special motor mount, but other than that, it looks about as straightforward as any other truggy conversion.

Hey welcome. I always thought those Cen Truggys were nice. I have a Cen Matrix Buggy converted and I love it. It handles really nice and the thing is tough as nails. It takes whatever you put it through and comes back begging for more. I really think Cen did a nice job in the whole Matrix lineup. A guy I bash with has the Matrix arena in Nitro form and its a really nice ride.

I haven't seen one converted yet, but I think it would be a great choice. I actually like the big braces you pointed out. Most buggies and truggys loose alot of chassis stiffness when you remove the radio/servo trays. They use them as a structural element to help keep the chassis flex down. Most conversions either remove or at least cut the tray in half and that can lead to allowing too much chassis flex. Those big braces over the top should prevent that and keep everything in line where it should be.

Keep us posted on the progress I'm interested to see what you come up with.

EDIT: Oh yea... Almost forgot. One thing I do know about the Cen stuff is that the plastic Kyosho spur gears dont fit the stock diff housings. I wound up grabing a hot bodies diff off ebay and using the plastic kyosho spur on it. The nice thing is that it drops right in. No mods needed. And since the truggy normally takes a bigger spur gear it will allow you to spin the diff around either way to give you more motor positioning chioces.

I can't decide if its more fun
to make it...
or break it...

Hmm thats strange, according to Micke_b it should be bolt on?

I also have a Matrix buggy (not converted) and im quite happy with it. But truggies looks like like they are really fun to drive!

I might just convert my buggy to start with and if everything works to my liking I might buy the truggy and convert that one instead.

Just decide what it is that you like and convert it. You can make just about anything work. It's really a matter of how much fabrication you are willing to do. The Cens are as tough as any other truck and I don't think that it would be a wrong choice.

If you are willing and able to fabricate a motor mount for it, along with whatever else you might need, then go for it. If you are unable to do the custom work, you might be better off going with something that Mike already offers a mount for.

BTW, WELCOME!

Thanks for your answers and thank you for the nice welcome :)

Too bad no one has attempted the Cen truggy before. Would have been reassuring to see another conversion and learn from it.

What do you think of this setup:

Am I missing something vital? Not sure about the balanser, the plugs and the deans. How many do I actually need?
