The Velineon is getting cheaper - 06.15.2007, 09:13 PM

The Velineon system is 169$$ here at towerhobbies. Way cheaper then a Mamba Max system and twice the Amp rating. Runs both sensored and sensorless motors. Seems promising and will be even cheaper with the discounts from towerhobbies.

That price will likely double. The Superbrain 989 was up there for 6 months at $89.99 and then they released it and it doubled, as well as many Traxxas parts. So I wouldn't count on that price, although I hope that is the price...

hmm, so u are saying I should buy it now, just in case they raise the price up? Might have to just do that then.

$169 isn't much less than a MM system and the MM will do 4S. If 4S isn't a concern, I'd order it now to lock the price in, if you can.

I wonder if the traxxas system will run on 4S A123.

4S A123 would be nice. Well Traxxas claims that it has an overvoltage protection. I'm hoping the sensor is only at the BEC and when bypassed there would be no problem.

It's my understanding that the protection is in the software. When more than 3S is applied, the esc won't power on, or something like that. Remember, Traxxas really goes out of its way to make things for the masses and tries to idiot proof their stuff. Although the new brushless stuff is nice, I don't think that it will be anything outstanding for us.

I am kind of excited about trying one of their motors with a MM on 4S lipo, or dare I say 5S.

Maybe not directly, but the indirect effect on the industry as a whole may very well end up beyond outstanding. I see this move by Traxxas as a wake up call. RTR BL maxx and e-revo are a very good possibility now. Perhaps this is what companies like castle need. Like spurs to the side. Bring us the MMM! Brushless is not only for the hardcore hobbyist now.

I agree. Traxxas is opening up the doors for other manufactures and introducing a new level of "performance" for the general market. I am just itchy to find out how robust this velineon ESC really is.
