Another spin on the steel pinions - 09.07.2007, 12:03 AM

Here we go again, another Steel pinion on steel spur theory. Sorry guys!!!

Had an idea and am going to have some maching done, thought I would share it with you guys and see what everyone thinks. I have read here that Mike had a batch of hardened pinions made out of clutchbells. He cut the bell off and pressed an adapter into the center that had a 5mm hole and setscrew in it. Now he offers hardened pinions, robinson racing IIRC. My idea is to do the same thing with an adapter, but use a clutch bell with removable gear, so that the cheap part can be replaced and the adapter/threaded portion reused. Would also make using a 2 speed tranny (lst etc) viable. Here are the parts that I am using and when I get to the machine shop I will report back.
