Futaba Fasst and Compro controller - 09.27.2007, 12:16 AM

Hey guys,

I'm running (or trying to run) my Compro 22418 with a Futaba Fasst radio. I just can't get the controller into programming mode with the Fasst radio. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, what was the work around?

I just seems that the receiver doesn't boot up fast enough when power is applied by the controller's bec.

Did you try just using a rx pack in the meantime? Kinda a pain, but at least you don't have to program much...

I use the fasst 3pm on my 224 with the internal bec and it worked the first time.

Wallot: Why do you use a UBEC now?

because the sbec is providing only 5V to servos. it says 5 / 6 V but after studying manual I found out that it's 5V and 6A cont. current.
also i am used to my dimmension eng. ubec.

OK, so as usual, I have something screwed up. When I turn mine on with the throttle pulled to full throttle, it just sits there and doesn't beep or anything. When I let go of the throttle, the esc arms.

do you have EPA set to 100%?
futabas have reversed throttle compared to other radios, so do a throttle reverse.

oh and it takes like 10 seconds before it beeps and you have to move throttle to full brake

wallot,

I think that you've hit the nail on the head. When you mentioned reversing the throttle, a light bulb went off in my head. Now I remember swapping two of the motor leads to get the motor to spin the right way. That is probably what my problem is. THANKS A LOT!

Could this have been your problem with the MGMs all along? Or is the Futaba radio newer?

MetalMan,

I just got the Futaba radio. I'm actually running two Compros now. One is the first that I had that was giving me all of the trouble. Since I've gotten it back from MGM, it's been running perfectly. It's the one that we are running in the XT8 with a Neu 1512 1900kv motor on 5S lipo that is giving all of the nitros in truck class all of the heartache at the Saturday night drag races.

My other Compro is a 22418 that I just got in yesterday, which I couldn't get the Futaba to work with. I just set the throttle reverse and all is well with the radio. This new 22428 is running as it should. I'm running it in a Turmoil buggy that has been converted to sit low and sport a truck body. I'm running this one with a 1515 1700kv motor on 6S with GRP Rally tires (3.9" tall). Geared 44/18 it only does about 52 mph, but it gets there in the blink of an eye.

The newer 22428 that I got in hasn't given me any trouble at all. I'm thinking that the first 22418 was defective and probably why it smoked. It's on its way back to MGM right now. Since I have a new 22418, I have to find a project to put the other one in, when it gets back.

I got the Futaba just to try it out. I saw it at my LHS and it was an impulse buy. So far, I like it a lot. It is much more programmable than the Spektrum. When the Spektrum "R" gets to my LHS, I'm going to try one of those out too.

I guess I'm just running out of things to buy.

Great on getting things figured out. I still like the design of the MGM with its 72 FETs and small size. I'm going to put the 22418 in a truggy for indoor winter racing with a 1515.

BTW I spoke today with the MGM owner and he cleared out the SBEC output voltage.
CAR speed controls have 5V only
Airplane ones have 5/6V swithchable

lxmuff, I like the 22418 too. One of the reasons that I got it was because the 16018 would cut out on me if I turned the delay time down too low, like when I wanted to get crazy with some wheelie action or just bashing. I don't know if it was the voltage cutoff or the current limited that did it, but I was hoping that the 22418 wouldn't cut out. So far, it hasn't.

wallot, thanks for the info. It looks like we're going to have to get a bec anyway, if we want the full capabilities for our expensive servos. I have two of the CC units on the way.
