Red face Mugen MBX5T Conversion - Suggestions/advice - 09.20.2007, 09:36 PM

New Project...

http://s168.photobucket.com/albums/u180/Arct1k/Mugen/

I was thinking to go for 4s and mm/ubec (just easy to use & I don't fancy the quark mod )

I'm hoping Mike will come through with a motor mount for me else I'm going to try to see what I can come up with at home...

Worst worst case i know there is this kit out there which looks pretty but means changing the diff to a Kyosho - all told that will cost over $200 which I'd rather put to motor and lipos - The esc mount looks sweet though so if mike's watching - I'd but one from you!

http://www.rcproductdesigns.com/EMBX5_index.htm

Any suggestions on motor / gearing - I'd like to get 40mph out of it - I'm in the debate of cheap (Feigao 8XL) or jumping in with the Neu - Would I need the 1515 or the 1512...

Apreciate all thoughts and input on the conversion - there don't appear to be too many out there...

Thanks!

Hey Arct1k, we are working on the mugen mount. Should be in the store soon.
The plan is to bang out some mounts on the weekend.

As for motor, I'd say play it save and and go for a Wanderer/Feigao first. For 4S I'd suggest a 9XL to match your MM.

40mph is alot of speed, we usually aim for 33-35mph. That was what you saw at the Barn in Mikes 8T. (He used a 1950 though, and let me use his 9XL for my Buggy)

Hope that helps

With some mild fab skills you can make a motor mount. If you are not inclined there, you could send chassis to Mike for making of a mount, as others have done. This would also help future conversions for others as they could buy the mount in the store.

As far as powering it, if you run the MM and go for cheap motor, you may want a 9XL, and just gear for 40mph. If you want to run a Nue, I would suggest a different controller, as many have had issues with the MM/Neu combo.

Dreams answered! GO RC-MONSTER! It will be a week before the roller gets to me - the joys of trading - so hopefully the mount will be in then! I'm happy to bring up the roller when i get it if you need something to try it with.

I have a MM and 9XL in my e-revo so I can swap it over to try and then decide!

Just have to sort out my lipo situation... I have 20C maxamps 3s 8400, 2s 5000 and 3s 5000 currently - I think I'll be forced to get a pair of 25 or 30c 5000 2s packs!

If 30-35 was how Mike was driving I might want 20-25! ;)

Dafni - you might also want to have a look at that ESC mount - Looks sweet with the fan mount built in - I think that would sell pretty well.

Please elaborate on this. Any pictures? Sounds very interesting.

So does the fan mount underneath, and the ESC mount on top. Would the fan be sucking or blowing air? Since if the ESC would be on top then the fan would be facing the bottom of the ESC. Also, if the ESC was mounted by double sided tape or Velcro, then the fan wouldn't do anything. Can you explaion to me how the components would mount?

Thanks.

Don't laugh! This is the only picture I could find.

Nice idea but I would have thought you'd mount the fun underneath blowing up into the ESC HS. Would work with a quark or mgm - Not with the MM as the cap are too high to invert.

Not my design! :)

It gives you the option of running a fan underneath. You have to take the plastic case off the MM and drill holes in the bottom and the sides - reassemble and mount it on the plate. You then put the fan on the bottom blowing in to cool the fets on the bottom side. I robbed the pic from another site, but you can kind of see the fan on the bottom.

MBX5T motor mount - RCM in a few days
Motor - Feigao 9XL to Neu
ESC - MM to GMG 160
Heatsink - RCM if using Feigao
Fan - 5v 20mm if using mm
Lipo - 4s 5000mah 25C
Battery holder - Custom - Stampede Chassis is a good start
UBEC - Castle one is nice

The mugen mount has been on the list for a bit - it will happen this week for sure, though. Sorry for the delays - if only there was more time in a day!
