Anybody still used brushed motors?

With the demise of astroflights 05 line, velcom stopping motor production, and brushless motor ESCs becoming affordable, high performance brushed motors seem to be becoming a thing of the past. Bob wont make the pullmasters anymore, and for some applications a brushed motor works best. Anybody else here even use brushed motors anymore? I don't in any of my bashers, but in my crawlers they work well. It has been quite the task to find anybody willing to go out of the box of the standard Roar legal design, even though racing is but a tiny part of RC use in the U.S. Anybody else feel my pain on this?

I still use brushed motors.. for my drift car... I use the cheap $5 johnson ones... wouldn't spend $50 for a nice brushed motor... unless I was really into racing..

i still use brushed in my crawlers. lathe motors in my Clod and Stealth. it's just too dang expensive to buy 2 complete brushless setups for one truck (someone has a mod to run 2 BL motors off one esc, but i'm not that brave).

I have two Dewalt 14volt motors that I am still playing with. For the money I think they are the best deal on the market today. They are incredibly strong, and if you think about what they are designed for they never wear out. Plus they can handle much more than their suggested rating, because they are set up to do so much more than the intended use. So you can really power them up and go crazy with your truck and know that they will not be the first thing to go.

At the moment I have a tamiya wild dagger (2 gearboxes, ft and rr) running 2 traxxas 12t titan 550 motors. I am currently using a novak super duty esc and running it on 3s lipo. It is reasonably fast, 32mph IIRC. Runs fine and the motors say decently cool with some clip on heatsinks. Plus the traxxas motors are only rated for 8-9v but the work fine on 3s. Tons of power too!

wait...now i'm not sure if any of us are addressing your point. do you want higher end brushed motors, that are ROAR legal? or are you just starting a general 'who uses brushed motors' thread? just trying to smell what you're steppin' in.

yeah i really like the titan 550 12t motors for my self i will be using them in my touring car to come as an experiment. i think the use a brushed motors become more usedful in minis. for example a would rather use a 370 and spy in a mini t than a brushless becuase the motor is 12 bucks and the BL is to fast. also in the vendetta and other cars that use the 380/370 motors for some small indor tracks brushless is not necessary and is just not worthi it to me. i am not sure though that is just what i think.

I loved my graupner speed 300 in my mini-t. Broke it in and it ran incredibly well. It would give my brushless a run for it's money, the brushless just had more top end. Sadly it died quickly as I didn't cover the holes in the sides. I have a stampede that's brushed as well. I have been finding that good brushed motors have been getting rare for a while now. I think this probably has a lot to do with the plane crowd going brushless. I wanted to stay brushed in my mini-t's as I didn't really have the cash to go brushless at the time but I found people were charging a fortune for brushed motors. I paid $30 for a graupner speed 300.

I am wanting higher end brushed motors, yes. Non-serviceable motors are everywhere. Just wanted to know who still ran brushed too. I don't give a flip about roar rules, I just hate to see the nicer brushed motors go by the wayside.

Only my Micro-T and Axe CP are brushed...

Hmm, Plettenberg make high-end brushed motors- they claim to be as powerful as low-end BL motors.... Im guessing they mean smaller can sized BL motors, torque wise.

Yep, plenty of them. I would get a pletty but the exchange rate is horrible on them, I also heard they stopped producing the brushed line as well.
