a123 mounting - 10.14.2007, 11:25 PM

Hi all,
Getting ready to hop up my E-maxx, and I figure the first thing to do is get more batteries into the chassis. That means new chassis. I already have a 9xl motor so that means I need at least a 5s pack on each side of the truck.

Can anybody post of pic of there flm ext chassis with A123 cells.

thanks

Thanks for the photo, but darn it.
Havijg more then one hobby stinks. My I wanted to set it up with 3 cell and 2 cell packs in series so that I can use the 3 cell packs in my airplanes.
My current 3s packs are setup like |||

If I could find away to do it I would have 2 sets of truck packs else if I must do it like yours I will have 1 truck pack :(

if you look behind the trans there is alot of room there. you don't have to use the layout i have. i can fit my packs side by side between the spur gear and rear shocks.

i have an extended maxx chassis (UE lightning instead of FLM, but i did have the FLM and know they are the same length). my arrangement is a 2s2p pack on one side, and two packs of 3s1p wired in parallel on the other side - for a total of 5s2p. they'll fit, but your best bet is using stretchable velcro strips. i got mine from horizon hobbies. they work great.

i don't have a pic, but can get you one if you want to see it. it's pretty simple.

All, As I get ready to do the build. (The chassis is here.) I starting thinking should I get SS hinge pins and SS screw set or is that just a un needed expense

I would go with TI hinge pins -

They are stronger than SS and lighter. I prefer to use hardened alloy steel screws rather than SS screws. They are stronger and harder. I've had probs with the SS ones heads stripping or rounding out on me after taking them in and out several times.

Thanks I may just order a set next time. I hate e-clips but bent parts are no better.

I had asked about screws before I bought some. Did not get much of a response so I got the SS ones. Now I've made my bed so I guess I good until I strip a few.

I have already finished the first part of the build and lost a part on first run :(
The nut to one of the ofna wheel adapter.

I was running in 1st gear and 6s1p A123 setup.

I had my experience with SS ones as well, they'll do OK. The ones you take in and out a lot will be the ones that will give probs, especially if you're not using a good driver.

They best thing for hinge pins in alum bulks is to go with andened steel pins. No one makes them - its a do it yourself deal using ejector pins. Its great if your bulks are drilled and tapped for set screws like dace bulks or UE VBS - no eclips!. I just installed a set of hybrids and wanted to drill and tap them, but thought better of it. I use a smidge of shoe goo or silicone cement on the eclips and don't seem to have much prob with losing them.

I don't care for them either, though!
