Revo CD problems - 01.25.2008, 01:39 PM

I need some advice on getting the revo CD setup in my BL revo.

The problem I'm having is that the CD unloads under hard acceleration while going straight which balloons the front tires and breaks traction. I'm running 500l diff lube which is the heaviest I can find but it is not enough to prevent the unloading.

Most of the nitro guys can't imagine why I'd need more then 300k so they are no help. Has anyone with a BL revo been able to control the CD unloading or am I going to need to convert to a 1/8 buggy CD? Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is driving me nuts.

Revo setup: 3.3 chassis, locked revo tranny w/CD, neu 1515 1Y, 4s & 5s lipo.

I had the same problem in my Revo when using a CD, and mine WAS a custom buggy diff (with 4 spider gears). I tried thicker oil and that helped the unloading, but then lost the steering benefit, so I ended up pulling it out. To tame the wheelies, I just increased the punch control or reduced the start power so the torque wasn't quite a strong. That helped MUCH more in my case.

Thanks Brian.

So it sounds like I'm facing the same choice then, either I get better steering at the expense of the diff unloading under power or I can lose some steering and have improved acceleration down the straights.

The problem that I tend to have with using punch control is that I can't seem to get used to the mushy delayed feel of it. Wheelies are not so much a problem as getting out of a turn without over powering and a little out of control.

Does anyone have any experiance with the quickturn driveshafts? This sounds like a good idea as turning is improved with no diff unloading problems. The only issue I can see may be brakes since the front shaft has the oneway bearing.

If you do use the QuickTurn, you'll get all braking to the rear. Some people prefer this so they can swing the rear out in a turn.

And I would think the QT would reduce your in-air attitude adjustment effectiveness during jumps...

What are you using for the ESC? know you don't like the weak feel of reduced start power, but maybe you just had it set too low?

Brians right, the Quickturns do in fact make it harder to jump. No front brakes to bring the nose down....

I could probably get used to pitching the rear end around in turns but I'm thinking that trying to slow down after long straights would be tough. I don't want it to feel like a 2wd stadium truck for sure.

I'm running a MGM 16018 controller and about the most punch control I can run before it starts feeling really mushy is .39 and I prefer less then that when I can. I am trying to force myself to deal with it as it does cut down on drivetrain abuse and current spikes.
Although I suspect that small amount may not be cutting the current spikes all that much.

I have the battery weight as far forward as possible on the revo chassis to help steering. This also tends to make the nose want to drop on most jumps so again this may or may not be a problem.

Maybe it's time for me to build a 1/8 truggy. There are getting to be less people running MT's at the track near me and lately I've been running against the 1/8 guys anyways...

What brand of oil are you using? Some are thicker than others. Kyosho's 500000 wt silicone oil seems to be the best, it's like,...... I can't even compare it to something, this is the thickest stuff I've ever used!
