Yeah, that would do it. Several strands of wire can bend, but if soldered together, it is effectively one large wire and won't bend easily withough breaking. I believe I was one of those who suggested bending them, and for that I'm sorry.
I would not try it as is. If you know it's broken, there's no sense in damaging an ESC. Believe me, all three wires are necessary.
