Track Locator - 06.04.2008, 01:27 PM

Track locations and information on racing at those tracks please. Try to include type of track, classes raced, race schedules, special events, and club or group information and contacts.

This topic would be a good candidate for a database-driven system; something with search capability and so on.

Anyway, the only track I've been to is:

Location: Hobby Haven LHS

Address: 86th street, Des Moines, IA

Contact: 515-276-8785

Description: Small outdoor track more suited for 10th scale IMO, but they do 8th scale too. Classes seem to be determined by if 3 or more of the same vehicle type show up. Race are for prizes (store credit I think). Race fees are something like $8 for one class, $12 for two. Practice up to about 15 minutes before race time just to allow a little track prep.

Wednesday nights are electric only. 7PM to finish. Typical classes are stock/mod truck/buggy (2wd 10th scale).

Saturday afternoons are electric and nitro mixed, but seem to be mostly nitro. 12 noon to 4-5ish IIRC. 8th scale buggies/truggies common. Too smelly and noisy for me most of the time.

I agree! If it is possible to do that, someone please jump in and do so. That sort of thing is beyond what I can do. But thanks for listing your track to.

I'll start this off with info about my club and track then.

R/C Outlaws
Track is in Glidden Park, Collinsville, IL 62234 (20 minutes East of downtown St.Louis, Mo).
The track is an offroad RC Supercross layout. We have an option to bypass one section of the larger doubles, tripples, and table tops for classes like Monster Truck, 1/10 2wd, and 1/10th 4wd. Classes raced are usually 1/8 Buggy, 1/8 Truggy, Monster Truck, 1/10 2wd and 1/10 4wd. Electrics and Nitro run together. Normal format is three 5 minute heat races and a 10 minute main. We race very other Sunday with the first race of '08 being on May 4th. Regular races are for gift certificates to Gateway R/C, primary club sponsor and LHS. Points are also tracked for trophies at the end of the season. AMB timing system, with club transponders available if you don't have a PT. Classes will be determined for 3 or more of a class. Run what you brung, and hope you brought enough.
June 14th will be the R/C Outlaw's first annual Dash for the Cash
Entry fees will be $30 per vehicle raced ($25 if you pre-register online before midnight on the 11th). 100% of the entry fees will be paid out. Top 3 positions in all mains pays.
Check out www.rc-outlaw.org for more information on the club, pics of the track, information about racing and pre-registering for the Dash for the Cash and regular races. Weather permitting, the track is open to the public to use anytime but on race days. Wednesday evenings are typically test and tune sessions under the lights.

Name: Bloomfield Nitro RC Club

Address: 2420 state route 65 , West Bloomfield, NY 14469

Contact: bloomfieldrc.com

Description: Large outdoor track suited for 8th scale or MT, they will race 10th scale as well. Classes are determined by if 3 or more of the same type vehicle type show up. Race are for points which will yield prizes and awards at the end of the season.

Sunday is open racing/practice. Practice starts at 11am and racing is at 1pm. Typical classes are 8th buggy, 8th truggy and MT. Other classes can be formed if there are RCs to race (at least 3). Nitro's run 5 minute qualifiers (twice) and a 10 minute main. If there is an electric only class that day they run 5 minute main for the electrics.

This is a club track, so there is club member practice on Thursday evening and earlier Sunday morning. They will allow brushless to compete in their Nitro classes for regular race days, but do not allow brushless for their multiday weekend events (unless they can support their own class of 3 people).

I think an excel based spreadsheet would work with a simple Visual Basic program to search and give results. I know a few people that may could do this.

Excel, Access, whatever. Online version would be better IMO so that everyone could have access to it without having to download updated files all over the place.

I wonder if Mike could add something like that and tie it to the forum login access to keep just anyone from adding crap.

I meant from the basics of programming, not having the system off line. My suggestion is that excel or similar would be simple to populate and simple to draw info from. I had several database programs made this way at my last company.

I started a track database kind of site for Houston a year or so ago, but let the project die.

It was google map based, containing info on each track in area. Wonder if I have a backup of the site anywhere.

Of course now you can make custom maps on Google pretty easily now.

Ah ha. There it is. I knew there was also a site floating around with a directory, just couldn't find it.

I like the idea of the custom Google maps thing too. easier to see the tracks closest to you with out having to actually search addresses for one.
