Hello all, I have 2 e-maxx 3905's, I drive one and the other is to bash and let other people drive, mostly my 6 yr old daughter, but also everyone that ask, can I try it?

both are loaded with rpm arms, skids, etc... I run nimh batteries and will continue to do so for now, I have several sets, eventualy I will go lipo, but not yet. I want to go brushless with my maxx, but I want a simple set up, just a little more power than stock and longer run times... I have been searching this forum, traxxas and rcu for a while, looks like castle - mamba, novak 6.5 or ez-run??? but what is best for the simple minded basher that wants to use nimh and not break a lot? around 250-300.00 would be ok, more if it's a must. I'll upgrade the trans, axles, etc... as needed. thanks for your help and sorry for the "whats best for me" question.

Welcome to rc-monster!

You can get away with a feigao xl motor, mamba max and BEC for around 250, less if you find things used. but your best bet is a Mamba monster 2200kv setup.. they run for 295 new..

thanks... I thought the standard answer was going to be mamba monster...

so the 2200kv is good to run with nimh? also just run stock gearing? this is going to be fun.

Honestly, i have been mauling over the same question in my head for when I do get my 3905, my difference is that I'm running 4s lipo instead of Nimh.

As of now I have 2 MMM esc's, a Medusa 36-70-1600 motor, and a Tekin 1700kv truggy motor. I'm thinking that one of these motor's will end up in my Emaxx on 4s with a taller gearing. Should lead to longer runtimes and cooler temps. I then have the ability to throw 5s or 6s in there if desired.

But I have also been looking into the MMM/2650kv combo. This is a plenty powerful setup. I actually ran this in my 2.5 Revo conversion before I moved it into my 1/8th buggy. The 2650 is a super strong little motor and should have no problem moving the Emaxx around at 40mph or higher if desired.
I have been toying with the idea of running this motor on my 3905 for a while.

Good thing is, you can pick up a refurbished combo from http://www.castlecreations.com/produ...r_refurbs.html for $225. You can't beat the power for money there.

But being that you are using NiMh's still, I would suggest gearing it easy for around 35mph, otherwise, you may start killing those NiMh packs. I would start off around 16/62 gearing or maybe a 17t pinion also.

then once you go lipo's you'll be able to gear higher for more speeds.

You can score a M.M.M. on Ebay for around $260 and you may need to drop down a couple teeth on the pinion.
I hope your NiMH packs are of decent qaulity because the M.M.M. demands good packs.

not all the packs are great, but i'll run the pro-match 4200's and 5000's in my brushless maxx. is the mmm 2650 or 2200 to much for nimh?

As long as the packs are of decent qaulity you should be OK if geared conservatively.
When you get Lipos you'll be able to gear up easily.

Yep, you should be fine if you stay geared for around 35mph.

Both MMM combos would be great. the refurbished ones I linked to are really nice. The ESC's are refurbed and test, but the motors are brand new. $225, you can't go wrong.

2200 or 2650? what pinion?

2200. the 2650 is a shorter motor (less torque) and is designed to run in lighter cars.

If you want to run big heavy tires and aluminum parts, then get the 2200kv. If you are being weight conscious, the 2650kv will do fine.

no alum, all rpm... I run 1/8 buggy wheels & tires... light all light as poss with less rolling mass.

now what one, the 2200 is more torque, less top end.
the 2650 more top end, less torque... harder on batteries.
more potential in the future when I go lipo...

I suppose either one is great and will be more than enough, just not sure wich one to get.
