1717 in a E-revo.. Kinda tight :) - 04.03.2011, 06:07 PM

If anyone else was wondering about installing a 1717 in a E-revo BL, i thought i could share some pics :)

I ended up on a 21/40 MOD1 gearing with a castle pinion, and a Revo spur.
This gives me 44mph on 5s/29200rpm`s@3.7v, or 52mph on 6s/35000rpm@3.7V, on MT badlands (5.84"). (using LST XXL diffs)

I`ll do some more testing on temperatures and come back on this, since my lst diffs lasted 10mins the last time i tried, and now i`m waiting for a new MMM ESC since my last RX8 went up in flames.
I dont think it`s possible to fit a smaller pinion, without raising the tranny alittle.

I must say, i`m kind of sceptic about temps for the MMM esc with this huge motor, but we`ll see how it goes. I know people has done it before, but i dont know about theire temps.

In this first pic`s, i wanted to show that i`ve shaved off almost 2mm of the entire motor mount.
Of course i had to shave the same amount of where the lower mounting (pivot) is..
I also had to use 4mm countersunk screws, so i had to drill the bracket holes for that.

As you can see below, this made the spur REAL close to the mount (it looks like it`s touching, but i promise, its not as bad as the pic shows hehe), so i shaved off alittle there as well, to make alittle gap between them.
The pinion is also very close, but it does not touch ofcourse.
I actually cut off the motor axle 2mm because it touched the mount plate, and i shortened the wires to clean up the installation.

The rear shock mount had to suffer some :p
I dremeled it _alot_, but still as little as possible. With my 21/40 gearing i actually barely touch the rear of the motor, and the motor is approx 1mm from resting on it under the motor.
BUT i have moved my tranny 1-2mm backwards to fit the front kershaw axle that`s too long, so it shouldt be this tight. I might do something about this later.

Right now, my ESC is in the mail from Tower, but i will get more pics when its innstalled.
And the stock RX box will be used, in the stock mounting place.

Please step in with some experience on using MMM for the 1717..
I`m thinking the motor might be sort of big for the MMM hehe..

I`m planning on running the 5s / 44mph, with 6000mah 25C-50C nanotechs (thats 150A continious, 300A burst claimed).

Mine ran just fine on the Monster at 4s geared 23/38, neither the motor or ESC got hot. Good job!
