Another 1/5 Fluxer - 01.30.2012, 08:51 PM

Well I'm a bit over standing backflips so my Flux is in a conversion mode as well.

At present we have:

Alza 5B Chassis Plates
Castle Neu 1717 Motor
MMM XLV2 ESC (due in tomorrow)

Transmission is all upgraded gears (HD Lightweight) Delrin Spur 16/48 gearing.

Have a 5SC Body, Body Posts / Bumpers and Wheels/Tyres on order but am at a loss how to mount it all. Looking at Rummy's build among others they all have some way of fabricating parts to suit, stuff I just don't have access to. Have contacted Alza but he needs drawings to fabricate something, which I haven't had a chance to do...... dilemma is do I cheap, buy a HK clone Baja, nick the Shell / Wheels/Tyres and Wing off it, make this a 5B with a cheaper ESC then convert the Baja with the MMMXLV2 as the centrepiece or is it workable to mount the 5SC bits without a machining shop?

I would think the front and rear body mounts wouldn't be too hard, just raise them up or reverse them if need be to line up better on the body. As for the sides, I think you might be overthinking it a bit. You'd be suprised what you can do with some flat plate and "L" aluminum pieces, a hacksaw, and some files or a dremel with a sanding disk to clean up the edges. With that you could make up some mounts for extended Traxxas body posts to use for the sides. Might not be quite as polished as a cnc'd part, but you could remake them a couple times until your happy for alot cheaper with stuff you bought at home depot.

ESC arrived today so need to work a way to mount it. Disappointed in the built in 5A BEC, with the Spektrum RX and Turnigy 8166 Servo it browns out even with a receiver cap fitted and before I have connected any of the linkages to the servo horn.

Will probably sub in a receiver pack for now, but for a $250-$300 esc, it's a bit of a bummer! Hoping it's not a faulty as with the 2 weeks to ship back to USA, stated 4 week lead time on Castle site and 2 weeks to ship back..... well you get the idea!

I doubt the BEC is faulty. CC Built in BECs are WEAK. My MMMs all do it as well. With just a single hitech 7950H or bluebird servo. Even with the cap as you stated. I know the turingy BECs work well... as thats what I have been using. Cheap too...

Well 5SC Shell, Wheels/Tyres and Bumpers are in, no way will these mount up with what I have, ordered a HK Baja clone, will convert that to a 5SC-E and this will become a buggy. With the new Flux 1/5 Scale 4wd out, want to be different.
