Depends on what you're running and what you want to do. If running Windows, you can try Windows Movie Maker. It's free and is about as easy to use as you can get. IIRC, XP has it built-in (may have to install it from the CD), but for Win7, you can download it free from http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/w...ssentials-home

Haven't done much video with Linux or Mac, so you'll have to wait for someone else to chime in, or Google for a popular one.

I use windows movie maker. Nothing fancy, but I don't need it to be. I just want to cut clips down and stick them together. Which is easily accomplished with WMM. I've had it crash a few times though, so "save and save often".

Yep windows movie maker is pretty simple and easy to use. Gets the job done and has a few whistles. Will probably be more than sufficient.

I used Adobe Premier before and it's really nice. Subscription is kinda expensive but definitely has a bunch of bells and whistles.
