G2R Setup questions - 06.20.2006, 09:21 AM

Hello,
I will be Building a G2R soon and have some questions I hope can be answered...
Heres what I have for starters....
Fiegao 540c 9L
Schulze 18.97 KWF
Spectrum DX3
MaxAmps 8000mah 7.4v x2 Li-Po ( which BTW are rockin batteries)
FMA Direct LVC

What I don't have is a truck to put this stuff in yet...

I am Planning on using the Ofna Strobe Kit as well as the single speed conversion for the maxx tranny w/ stell idler....
Also I will be going with Aluminum Diff Cups and Integy Hardened Steel Diff gear sets....

What areas of the you guys' trucks are weak and or tend to break more often than not?
Which Aftermarket upgrades aside from what i have mention'd would be better than stock parts of the revo front and rear ends....

Thanks for your help...

I would go with the RRP hardened gears instead of Integy and you will also want to get the external diff cases. The Revos are pretty indestructable from the factory so theres not much thats gonna break. I would go with RPM arms either way.

Hey all,
Just got my G2R up and running a few days ago.....Heres the Specs
Gorillamaxx G2R CF chassis
Gorillamaxx Single Speed Conversion tranny...
Schulze 18.97 KWF
540c 9L
2x Maxamps 8000mah Li-po 7.4 volts each
2x Hitec 645MG for steering
Spektrum DX-3 Radio
LST Crowd Pleazer 2.0
Pro-Line Maxx BowTies
Lunsford Ti hinge pins, pushrods and turnbuckles
And a bunch of 3Racing Aluminum Parts.....
Right now since there are no Strobe Kits available to buy anywhere, I have been forced to go with the Robinson Racing Double Disc Kit....Which I am not to fond of from my BL e-maxx days....(WHICH i'M GLAD ARE OVER)...

The truck weighs in fully Loaded with body at 10.175 pounds.....
I don't really have anything to compare it too so does anyone know if this is a good rolling weight for a E-REVO or E-MAXX Setup....?

Also right now its way overgeared at 66/16....The motor gets too hot after a minute of running...so for now I am waiting on some new spur and pinions to get here in the mail.....So I can't really play with my toy yet....
Does anyone have any input on possible gearing for this beast?
I am thinking that 76/16 might do the trick but I'm unsure.....untill the parts arrive....

Thanks

Looking good. A Stock E-Maxx with stick packs is about 12 pounds. A stock Nitro Revo with fuel is about 10 (as is a T-Maxx). So, if you look at the Maxx series, the electric is about 2 pounds heavier than the nitro.

Your truck weighs roughly the same - so thats really good.

Your specs seem nice, but I would suggest 1 thing. Switch out those two 645's for a single 5955TG (or two 5955TG's). However, two 5955's would be so much overkill it wouldnt be funny. A single 5955TG puts out 333oz of torque, a 645 puts out a measly 133, so two is still only 266... a full 77 less, and thats 2 servo's vs 1.

2 5955TG's would be 666oz... Thats enough to just tear your steering column out...

Thanks...I already have a 5955 and a 5995....
both have the same output at 6.0 volts....Only problem I am having is my right turn is better than the left and I am using the stock revo servo horn and linkage....The Bellcrank is by 3 racing....It looks like the problem is related to the fact the on a revo the servo is mounted at an angle and on the G2R it is vertical.....

And it does not make a difference wether you are using the strobe or not....Gearing goes by numbers....
Right now My gear ration is 20:1.....whats yours.....

Also, you can try the Traxxas Extended arms if wheelie ever gets to be a problem. They also increase steering a tad by shifting weight to the front tires.

Its kind of a bummer to get rid of the RPM ones in back though, but I have never broken a rear arm, let alone any arm on a Revo.

Well since my last post i have fixes my steering problem....
The problem was the fact that i was using the stock revo horn....
I switch to a normal servo horn and placed the link bar out from the endbell further, along with shortening the link bars length...
With some EPA adjustments i now have full steering ......

That is the whole reason why I thought i needed two servos...
Now i just have my Hitec 5995-TG installed...plenty of torque and speed...

And so far i don't have an issue with wheelies...I have the slipper adjusted so it does not wheelie.....
I did tighten it down just to see what would happen and my truck flipped over so theres plenty of torque in the 540c 9L even in its overgeared state...
Just I hope I can find the right ratio.....

Thanks

How hot is your ESC getting?
If the ESC is staying cool and the motor is getting hot, you may actually be undergeared. Do you have a 17t, 18t, or 19t pinion you can try with the 66t spur?
Try going up a tooth at a time (if you have the gears) and see how the motor and ESC heat come out after short test runs.

Keep a good eye on the temps of your lipo packs while you're testing, too. You don't want those going over 130F.

Hi,
Thanks for your informative post....
Right now after a few short passes the ESC is pretty warm....I can hold my thumb on it so its not hot....
the motor on the other hand is quite hot and i can't hold my fingers on it for any amount of time....
The batteries are very cool....infact they are barely warm....they are rated as follows...
Rated at 96 Amp Constant Discharge
Rated at 128 Amp Burst for 10 seconds.....
Since I was not thinking I was undergeared I may need to wait a bit longer in order to test out higher gear ratios then what i currently have....I do not have any gears higher than 16....and because of the fins on the motor the 16 tooth pinion I do have is the smallest size that can be used....I have smaller pinions but not larger...so I ordered the 76 tooth spur so I can try out a bit more lower ratios.....

Thanks

SKI

thats the thing. i don't know the overall ratio for the truck. i use mod1 pitch and i know what i get performance wise with each tooth count. that works for me, real world performance. like i said before, sorry for the lack of help in the gearing department

top speed is reached very fast.....
And I'm working on the gearing more now...i barrowed a temp sensor from my buddy to work things out...
