Gmaxx straps keep snapping! - 05.21.2005, 09:29 PM

I'm running 16 cell GP3700's on a CF Gmaxx chassis and nearly every time the truck takes a tumble one of the battery straps just shears right at the mounting plate. Does anyone else have this problem?
Are there any mods out there to reduce the stress on the straps at the mounting points.
BTW thanks for all your help Mike in putting together my 10L/9918 combo, trucks performs way above expectations, brilliant service. I'll post some pics soon.

same thing happened to me! But then i bought another set to replace to broken ones and it never happened again. It was weird, but then i noticed that the straps were Generation 3, i'm not sure if the straps that broke for me were G2...but i'm assuming so b/c the straps got revised alot or something

Is there anyway to tell the difference between Gen 2 and Gen 3, I wasn't aware of this.

I use two sets of straps on my trucks(the ones that use velcro still). I snapped a strap last year and since then doubled up on the straps. The CF battery strap is also a nice option, which works better than the double straps. For 16 cells, the CF straps are the best option in my opinion. The weight of the cells is quite a bit for the fabric to endure ion a hard crash.

It is a tight fit between the posts with an 8 cell 3700 pack, do you know for sure whether the CF retainer would work OK with this size of pack?

I haven't tried it to be sure, but if the velcro works, I would have to assume the cf strap would also work. Do the cells extend past the holes?

Yes, the straps do go back slightly before they go over the battery tops, so I don't think the CF would work. Maybe somebody has tried it already?

Yeh I broke both my straps at once.

Thinking of making my own, wider and stronger ones to stop the cells falling out. :(

Buy a pair of Nike 'Terminator' basketball boots.
The ankle straps on them are perfect, and 3 times as strong.

no honestly :)
