16 cells on a mm esc? - 06.11.2007, 03:17 PM

hey i was running 12 cells on my new revo i got and WOWWWW talk about slow! lol... 25 max. anyways i have a 3rd 6cell pack and i made a series connector and attached everything. WOOHOO!! here comes the speed i was hoping for!!! i plan to get 2x2s2p 8k packs and im wondering if those will be compareable to the power of 18cells? because that will be ok with me!!

also i need to know how bad that is for my esc... it has a ubec so im sure that helps a little. i did like a 3 min speed run outside my house. i dont want to go bash with that power if my esc cant handle it...

although i cant bash with 12 cells because it is too slow... lol so i guess im stuck on the safe side till i get lipos!!

18 cells will be closer to 6S lipo when fully charged. If you keep running it like that, it think it'll blow.

What motor is this again? I can't believe you didn't blow up the MM on 18 cells. The caps are only rated to 25V, so I wouldn't push my luck w/ it. Fully charged good cells could pass this..

Did you check the original connections w/ a voltmeter? 25 is awfully slow for a BL. No other probs?

Get good cells, that's my advice.on 12 cells you can do 50mph.

I keep forgetting about the quality of nimh cells. I haven't messed with them in years.

Yes, you do need good nimh cells for a brushless setup. The motor will only deliver as much power as the batteries can supply. I'd go for 4S lipo and be done with it.

18 cells on a mm.... are you sure they didnt send you a MMM by mistake:005: Also, which motor are you using- that and gearing might explain why you werent as fast on 12 cells as might be expected....

ahaha ya. old rs gp3300s i did 2 diff runs on 18 cells and the mm is fine! lol... the run only lasts for about 9 min though cause then the batts die.. i wont do this anymore till i get new batts then.

would you reccoment 2x7cellib4200s instead of a 4s lipo setup? that way i can buy more 2x the batteries as if i bought lipos (lipos will be around 300) a set of ib4200s is like 120... sooo...

only advantage to lipos besides weight is runtime?

EDIT im just gonna go big with lipos. no sence in getting the nimh batteries only to find i want more power/runtime

ill just be carefull with the lipos and pay the extra 28.00 for the 3yr warranty!

Runtime is not the only advantage to lipos. Lipos don't drop voltage like the nimh cells do. Even the best nimh cells will only be able to pump out around 35A continuous. Even a cheapie truerc 4S2P 8Ah pack will do 80A and probably be lighter than as many nimh cells as it would take to make the same voltage.

Does truerc have any packs in 6S stickpack size!?

GP3300s are good cells, it what I ran b4 I got lipos. Even with 14 cells, on a MM/8XL I could hit ~38-40mph in my Revo. One of my 1st vids (Bl Revo Wheelies on youtube, click links in sig to get to my vids) was done with on my older gp3300s. Good speed and plently of wheelie power.

Unless your's are very poorly treated, they should be pretty fast still. Going 4S isn't going to give you a huge speed bump if all the parts aren't working properly. I would address this issue 1st. You bought this Revo used right? Are your electronics new?

Lipos are def worth it for the weight, runtime, huge punch, as well as low voltage dropoff (longer usable runtime). The TrueRc packs are very good for the price. The 10C 8K packs are good but wide (50mm, make sure they fit 1st) while the 15C 6400 packs are also great and are a "normal" 44mm, so fit in std batt trays. Both are ~$150 for a 4S pack (2x2S) so are a great deal. My vids both use TrueRc packs, the 4S is the 6400 pack, the 5S is the 8k packs. Plenty of power. Hyperion/apache taps too.

yes i bought the truck used. and the guy said h got all new parts for the truck. it looked very clean before i got ahold of it.. lol... it could be my gearing or something... because all the packs charge up to around 3200 mah so they are not completely dead yet..

What's the motor and the gearing? Maybe everything is fine, but it just doesn't seem like the #'s add up.
