Muggy: The Cadillac of bashers - 02.06.2008, 12:38 AM

I have seen quite a few people asking questions about the Muggy lately, so I thought I would share mine. I had already done a 1/8th scale buggy for the track and wanted a basher. I could not decide on a monster truck or a truggy, so the Muggy kind of split the difference. I also prefer a center diff over the transmissions in the monster trucks, so that sealed the deal. I also like the way the mudguards on my buggy keep the crap out, and the Muggy had that as an option too. The Cadillac Escalade body really hugs the mudguards well and keeps all the crap out.

A few details:

Neu 1515 2.5D
MGM-Compro 16024 ESC
Neu Energy 4300 lipo (25c)
Innovative RC 4mm chassis
TiNi Diff gears in Al cases
40 series Bowties for off-road
HPI Phaltlines for on-road

One thing to keep in mind, this thing is HEAVY! With nitro it is 11.4lbs., mine weighs in at 12lbs.! But this thing really rips for a heavy rig!

I have not had much run time on it as the weather really sucks here in the winter, but I am really having a blast when I can get a few dry days to run it.

Feel free to ask any questions if you are considering a Muggy. I may even be able to help you out with a motor mount, nothing fancy, just hand made and attaches to the diff support.

I read in an Adam Drake interview he runs the plastic RTR shock bodies on his Muggy to save 400 gms (almost 1 lb.) in weight.

E-CRT.5 Monster - RCM chassis, MM/Medusa 50x3300/3s, truck tires, 1/8 shocks
E-CRT.5 Stock - Sidewinder/4600/2s, buggy tires
E-8ight - Tekin RX8 2000kv/4S
E-8ight T- Tekin RX8 1700kv/5S

I don't have any purple motors, unless this looks purple in this picture

This is a Plettenberg Big Maxximum, actually blue (bad camera-phone pic).

As rschoi_75 said, the post by Haldir shows a Fiegao XL motor, which is purple.

I can't even imagine the power that thing has got.... but nice conversion. Let us know how it does once you get some good bashing in with it.

Nice! - 02.06.2008, 01:26 AM

Looks awesome. As soon as I see that mount, mine will be ready. I'm thinking Align 600XL (1700kv) and 5s. Should give mad torque and run for quite a while. I'm going to try to build the whole thing as waterproof as possible, I live right next to a football field, totally covered in snow.

Very nice. If you take the motor out can you fit a pack there? I wonder when nike is going to make a mount for this?

The shorter packs (max-amps) will fit, but longer ones (flightpower, neu) won't.
