Any tips on how to mount the battery tray in an XB8?

Hi Guys,

halfway thru building the buggy and I simply cannot figure out how to mount the battery tray in the buggy.

Also, whats the extra piece of spacer material used for?

That spacer is used to mount the battery tray and get it up above the mudgaurds. You can cut it to fit and drill holes to mount to chassis with existing holes.

So you just glue the spacer and battery mount together? Dat would eliminate screws protruding into the battery tray..

I use really short flathead screws, a few into bottom of spacer and a few in top through the battery tray, countersunk so the heads are smooth with the inside of the battery tray. Then I throw little thin padding in there to cover them up.

Do exactly what bdebde said - short screws, up from the bottom into the spacer and then down through the tray into the spacer.

Take a look at how I mounted the tray from Mike on my XB8 and it will make a little more sense:

You will have to cut about a 1/2" wide piece lengthwise from the plastic spacer piece Mike provides with the tray.

Actually as a second note:

I had a bunch of xray screws left over from the nitro parts of the kit that weren't installed and I used those to mount the spacer and tray. Try to use the pre-drilled and coutnersunk holes already in the bottom frame of the buggy where the engine and the gas tanke would've been mounted - much cleaning this way.

Its ok if there are screws going into the battery tray. All you have to do is get some foam about as thick as the protruding part of the screw and put it into the battery tray. Then put one more layer of padding on top of everything so that the screws are not visible. This method has been working awesome for me.

Yes - that is correct. This allows you the flexibility of being able to move the battery tray around a little bit to find the best balance front to back and side to side.

I used 4 screws through the chassis into the spacer and 4 screws through the battery tray into the spacer and it is mounted rock solid - better than any homebrew battery tray I've tried to make in the past.

I actually use the MaxAmps 5000mAh packs and not the Flightpower packs, so Mike made a battery tray for me that fits my packs perfectly - it measures a little shorter than the tray for the flightpowers.

Also - don't forget to drill pilot holes just a little smaller than the screw you will be using.
